I haven’t been keeping up on my basketball notes…

Is that Mosley in sweats on the bench? Looks like a big body we could use.

Their (other) big guy has about all their points. Noel.

Good start for OU. Currently up 24-21.

OSU is huge.

Hadaway still finding room. Has 9.

Sheldon made a 3. He also bricked a running, falll away, fadeaway 3.

Breathe first off the bench. Dior getting some early minutes. Elliot looks good on Bruce Thorton who looks like he should be playing DE on the football team. Jack Pav looks comfortable, being guarded by BT who has to outweigh him by 60 pounds.

Walking Bucket no first half minutes against Ohio State? Is he already out of the rotation on October 26th? Is he sick? Hurt?

Half: 52-37

OSU FG%: 72% (!!)
OU: 38%

Right after I started singing OU’s praises, OSU goes on a 19-7 run to close the half.

OU is 4-18 from 3. Stone cold. Not one of these dudes sets their feet. I think Shelton has 2 or 3 of them, and the ones he made were ugly as sin.

I know this post is about you trying to get traction on a new nickname, but help me out -- who are you talking about?

It is painfully obvious that we are as a team not good defensively. I’m probably outdated but I always thought defense was easier to teach/ coach than offense. I’m now inclined to think some are more naturally talented than others but to me this year’s big test is improving basic defense skills (and rebounding).

We were a really, really bad defensive team last year, too. We couldn't defend the three to save our lives.

Anytime we do have a defensive stop or force a turnover, a whistle is being blown but we can’t get it on the other end

Still a bucket.

Will have to ask Boals why he doesn’t get any minutes down 20 in a scrimmage.

He was dropping 35 every night and was MVP of that summer league where Trey Burke, not MVP, also played.

I saw the posts about Simmons being overweight. If so, it’s inexcusable. Very difficult to head into Arky State with any positives about this team after these exhibition games.

Kiir Kuany was our 4th leading scorer.

He also had 4 fouls in 3 minutes played in the 1st half.

So there's that.

Burris.

The credit here goes to MDWST who dubbed him "walking bucket". MDWST is a believer in Walking Bucket. Hopefully, walking bucket can contribute this season. If not, it has Ben Nicol vibes.

If this season goes the way I think it might go, we'll have a different coaching staff next year.

Not unlike Billy Hahn's 1988 team. Individual talent, little chemistry, mediocre coaching.

At least the MAC won't repeat the mistake of forcing a tourney team to play twice in one day. Not sure Simmons could get up and down the court in game 2, a la John Beauford.

If we aren't playing on Saturday in Cleveland this year - they deserve a different coaching staff next year. March is all that matters. Win or go home.

It pains me but I agree. I was harsh in criticism of Saul but Boals has lived off the COVID year where we beat Virginia and has been not much better than Saul. He is on life support now as far as I'm concerned. Anything less than 20 wins and at least a MAC title game appearance calls for a new staff.

If you had been AD at Toledo, you would have canned a pretty decent coach by now?

So what is the final straw with a coach then? How long do you allow a TK to coach and win 20 games a year with ZERO NCAA Tourney appearances? 10 years? 20 years?

Todd K is a great coach. He also, for whatever reason, absolutely cant win in March. Thats all that matters for a 1 bid mid major. Id have fired him years ago.

I went to the game yesterday. It was a terrible crowd, maybe 4,000 in attendance? Maybe 200 students or so. I know it was just an exhibition, but I maintain OSU's basketball program is just not well supported. Even when they are good, the atmosphere is not impressive and I really think they are settling into their destiny as a middle of the pack Big Ten program.

Anyway, OSU shot well and we had no answer for the 2 tall white dudes, which luckily won't really be much of an issue in the MAC. They also just blew past us to the rim way too much. They were 25 for 33 from 2 and 23 of 29 on free throws (we fouled wayyy more because we were constantly getting beat off the ball and sliding over late).

Offense was not terrible yesterday, some good ball movement at times but some issues finishing and too many ill advised threes. JP & EE are weapons driving to the hoop, but they didn't have great success yesterday and were unable to finish several decent chances.

Simmons has not looked good, which is concerning. He was at the center of any optimism we had. Hopefully it is just a slow start. I am not sure I see the overweight / out of shape narrative...just wasn't productive.

Sheldon just needs to be disciplined in what threes he takes. He showed he can still be a sharpshooter when he gets the right chances, but he also had a couple of the dumb crazy off balance shots, and not late in the shot clock.

I thought Kelly looked pretty solid and smooth for a freshman. Connors sure isn't shy about shooting the ball. I agree that I think I'd like to see more of Burris. Breath will be just fine in the Wiz/Searls role.

Not sharing in the extreme talk of regime change, however I also have some pessimism about the season. Right now I would expect us to repeat last season...frustrate with some bursts but mostly just be mediocre and around .500 in the MAC. That's where I'm at right now, subject to change.
