Hello all,

Kenny Brown here ('10) and I am the GM of the Ohio U alumni team in TBT. We have played in each of the last two TBT's but are looking to advance and win the whole thing this year.

As I build the roster, it is important to me to bring back some of the most decorated players in Bobcat history, as well those that were fan favorites. For 2023, I have a commitment from Antonio Campbell and am working to build around him, including several players that just finished their collegiate careers. I would love input on who you would like to see dress for us this summer. Games will be played in either Cincinnati, Dayton or Wheeling in late July.

To be honest, this is an expensive endeavor. As our players are professional basketball players, we try to offer a top-notch experience and therefore need to cover costs of recruiting and securing players, travel, lodging, meals, gym space, etc. If you are able please consider donating to the cause so we can bring back your favorite Bobcats of the past from DJ Cooper to Maurice Ndour.

Follow us on social media for up-to-date information and roster additions at Ohio1804TBT (Twitter, IG).

If you are able to donate, any contribution of $25 gets you one entry ($50, two entries, etc) to win gear and prizes from some of Athens and Ohio based businesses like Where I'm From, Milligan's Maple, Jackie O's and more.
GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/59bc17e6
Venmo: Ohio1804TBT

Lastly, if you own a business or know of a business that would be interested in sponsoring the team, we can get your company logo on team shorts, coaches polos and shooting shirts for our games that will be played on ESPN.

Thank you all and Roll Bobbies. I look forward to your roster input and having you fill the gym for the 2023 TBT.

We are not "Ohio U" and we certainly don't "Roll Bobbies," even if they don't have guns in London!

Go OHIO!

Slightly confused.

If you want to win, it doesn't really make sense to ask a message board "who they want to see" play.

If you want donations, that's fine. If you want a nostalgic team to put together to represent Ohio, that's fine.

But you said you wanted to win and you are the GM - so you should probably build your team of the best Ohio Alums you can assemble - not us.

Just my opinion.

You can start by eliminating the phrase "Roll Bobbies" from anything and everything associated with your team.

This isn't a hard list to compile. Assuming guys should be 35 or under to play then that takes us back 14 years to the 2008-09 team.

Top players by year:

0809 Jerome Tillman
0910 Armon Bassett
0910 KVK
1011 DeVaughn Washington
1011 Tommy Freeman
1213 DJ Cooper
1213 Reggie Keely
1213 Walt Offutt
1213 Ivo Baltic
1314 Jon Smith
1314 Nick Kellogg
1415 Mo NDour
1415 Bean Willis
1516 Treg Setty
1617 Antonio Campbell
1617 Kenny Kaminski
1718 Mike Laster
1819 Doug Taylor
1819 Gavin Block
1920 Jordan Dartis
2021 Jason Preston
2122 Ben Vander Plas
2122 Jason Carter
2223 Dwight Wilson

Alternates
2223 Ben Roderick
2223 DeVon Baker
2122 Tommy Schmock
1920 Sylvester Ogbonda
1718 Kevin Mickle
1415 Stevie Taylor
1314 Ricardo Johnson
1314 TJ Hall

Crowd Favorites
1011 Asown Sayles
* Honorable Mention to Quinn Corna

That's 33 names. By the time you eliminate guys that are injured, too old or out of shape, then remove guys who are still playing or hope to play for a paycheck next year, then eliminate guys who just aren't interested or have other conflicting commitments/jobs you've probably crossed off 75% leaving 8 or 9 guys.

Hopefully you can convince enough to form a core of 5-6 guys from those 8 or 9 to make your team and then fill in from there.

Sorry for the negativity in here Kenny! Personally, I would love to see a mix of young and old alumni on the team - main guys I'd love to see on the team are Tommy Schmock, Ben Vander-Plas, Dwight Wilson III, DJ Cooper. Would also be cool if we could get DeVaughn Washington or KVK. Best of luck for you all this year!

Such a difficult endeavor with so many moving pieces. You have to find the sweet spot of not still playing professionally with but still good and in playing shape. Not easy. I think BVP & DW would be great but I bet they'll be busy figuring out their next career move. Plus the geographical challenges. I'd probably contact your top 10, then your next 10, and so on.

At least Ohio U is short for our universities actual name. I have no earthly idea what a "Bobby" is beyond an infantile, cartoonish, non-offensive version of Bobcats. And why are they rolling? It's completely unoriginal to copy the currently popular college team in Alabama.

All merch with "Roll Bobbies" should only come in pink and as a onesie. And there should be a disclaimer on the back that states "I wish I was in the SEC"

He's the one that needs to get a life, in the sense that he's completely out of touch with much of the fan base. I'd bet he's one of those who roots for the Buckeyes on fall Saturdays and could care less about the Real OHIO's football fortunes!

Yeah, the guy who is clearly well-connected within our basketball program and puts his own time and effort into building an alum team for a nationally televised tournament that helps build our brand is "completely out of touch with the fanbase."

But you, at age 103, have your finger on the pulse.

Always important to gatekeep. Keep up the good work. Really fighting the good fight here.

If I’m understanding you correctly; he’s completely out of touch because he came to BA to engage with the fan base and said Roll Bobbies? Interesting logic and conclusion.

Come back anytime, Kenny.

I cannot count how many times I have heard "Roll Bobbies" or "Let's go BOBBIES!" on campus or at sporting events - seems like it's the rad new thing, bro.

In all seriousness, I don't mind it at all. If it gets people my age engaged then time to keep saying it.

I got whiplash from reading the first few comments. YUCK.

At this point, I think most names are covered, but - as you said, many of these guys are playing in Europe and might not even be state side during the tournament, so I think securing OUR guys is the most important thing honestly.

No more DJ suiting up for the MAC team.

What is Jason Carter up to these days? He would be a nice add.

Not an area we've invested in before, but curious.

There's so much to unpack in such a small (in many ways) response. First, the argument that someone who says 'Roll Bobbies' sounds childish is really negated by an elementary school retort of 'He...needs to get a life' and is incredibly immature. Secondly, please do not suppose that you speak for the fanbase of OHIO as a whole and that you get to decide who is completely out of touch. That's quite narcissistic (but that seems to be par for the course with your posts). Finally, it's *couldn't* care less.

I was told to "get a life" by another poster, so I just childishly responded in kind, which I suppose is kind of childish, so you have a point. There are many others on here who agree with me both on the "Roll Bobbies" business and the use of "Ohio U" in an athletic context. Perhaps, they don't care to get involved in this childish discussion, and I don't blame them. I didn't say mine was the only point of view, but I did feel that using "Roll Bobbies" and "Ohio U" in the same post was something that should not go unpunished. ;-)
