Been thinking about this for the past few days, but it should get very interesting this fall with who's going to be the starting PG. I've been thinking - What if Miles shifted over? I believe he could handle it well, great ballhandler and defender. BUT not discounting Frazier, Sheldon, AJ Brown and Estis. Should be interesting to see this very talented recrcuiting class coming in. Excited and can't wait for 22-23.

I don't believe the starting point guard currently is on the roster...

Yea, I think it’s more likely that Frazier and Estes don’t see much — if any game time at all.

We are going to have a major problem on our hands if the starting PG is on the current roster as of April 17, 2022.

I always thought Miles was more of a PG anyway. But I’ve been thinking, EJ4 has a ton on high school highlights of him handling the ball. Do we have him as a back up to Miles? Or have him learn behind Miles and the transfer?

100% agree. According to Arkley there was a P5 transfer in Athens for a visit on Friday. I would have to assume it's a PG just based on our needs.

I hope it was a PG, but it also might have been Gabe. He did commit Friday night.

Gabe's commitment announcement had him in one of our uniforms, so he had to have already been on a visit.

Seems we're going hard after a PG in the portal, so you guys are likely correct that our starting PG isn't on the roster yet.

That being said, I still like the notion of 6'4 AJ Brown at point.

Please let it be former Cleveland State/University of Florida guard Tyree Appleby.

Peyton Daniels (Vandy/SF Austin) has only played 3 games in college yet. He should be well rested. Dude is lightning fast. Nobody will "out-athlete" the guy. For the 3 games he was the backup to Pippen Jr. it seemed like he was trying to BE Pippen Jr. and not playing within himself as a true freshman. He has offers out of h.s. from GeTech, VaTech, Bama, OleMiss, Georgia, others

Appleby had big games vs Arkansas (26), Auburn (19), Oklahoma St. (21), Tennessee (16), Georgia 21, and a host of other double figure games. He also averaged 17ppg his second season at Cleveland St.

He could be a mighty fine PG if he develops. I have a gut feeling though Carter Whitt will be transferring here. If so very great pickup for next season.

I agree with everyone else stating that their starting point guard isn't on the roster yet.

Would be thrilled if Carter Whitt transfers to Ohio. Things didn't work out at Wake Forest but he's a former 4-star, Top 80 recruit with all kinds of P5 offers out of high school.

You pair that with AJ Brown who's an elite recruit himself, Gabe Wiznitzer and a returning Dwight Wilson and you'll remain among the top teams in the MAC with the potential to be a dangerous mid-major.

Many on this board have questioned Jeff Boals recruiting. I'm not sure I agree. He hasn't hit on many HS recruits although Sears and Roderick were highly regarded coming in but the transfer portal is just as important nowadays. Hitting on Wilson, Carter and now Wiznitzer shows that Boals has the ability to keep the program winning regardless of whatever losses they suffer on a yearly basis.

What should I be seeing in Carter Whitt? I've never watched him play, but what's he good at? Terrible shooting numbers in two years at Wake, worse turnover rate than assist rate, and not even act standout per 40 numbers that you can parse out to strong production with more playing time.

Is 11mpg with poor production in the ACC an above average starter in the MAC? I'm not convinced.

He's a much better version of Frazier and some people were overly excited to get Frazier. Then again, he's not Steve Nash as the person who put this on YouTube predicted. He did actually score double figures twice as a true freshman....vs Miami (Fl) and Notre Dame. And also vs some D-3 or NAIA school.

Actually, I would compare him to this kid who signed with ETSU...

Carter Whitt was the 9th highest ranked recruit in Wake Forest history. As previously stated, he didn't get off to a great start but he's only a sophomore in terms of elgibility.

We've had other highly ranked transfers in the past including Armon Bassett, Walter Offutt and Kenny Kaminski. They rarely turn into superstars in the MAC but there's normally a high chance of them being successful players at our level.

Whitt was the top ranked point guard in the state of North Carolina in 2020. He has decent size, vision and would be an upgrade at the PG position based on his potential alone.

Is it a guarantee that it'll work out if he signs with Ohio? No, but it's worth taking a shot. We'd have three top 200 high school recruits on the team simultaneously with multiple years of eligibility remaining. OU would have a clear talent advantage on the rest of the conference from a "ranking/potential" perspective.

I mentioned in a thread earlier this season that I don't believe Jeff Boals has any inclination of 2022/23 being a rebuilding season. I think he looks at it as a reloading year.

Of course, this is all speculation and we don't even know if Whitt will even sign with Ohio.

Some web chatter that he might be leaning toward Furman.

Good school academically. Went 22-12 last season. Beat Louisville. A Chattanooga league tourney finals buzzer beater kept them out of the big dance.

Yea, I pointed this out in the other thread. He started following multiple players and Furman’s hoops IG. He’s also unfollowed Roderick and IJ. I’d say he’s more than likely to go in that direction. Also closer to home, on top of the reasons you listed.

Plenty of PG’s still available in the portal. Would have been a nice get, though.

Edit — as of this morning, Boals is no longer following Carter. Onto the next.

Agreed. Shooting rarely just shows up. If he wasn't able to show anything close to even average shooting in decent playing time for 2 years...he just isn't a good shooter, and I'm not interested in poor shooters. If he comes I will support and hope for the best but I have to imagine we can find better options.

Peyton Daniels would be a convenient back-up plan.

He had the grades to get into Vandy and an impressive list of offers.

Might not be eligible for the first few games since he played 3 times. (?)

I couldn’t find anything on it, but him leaving 3 games into the season is odd. If we’re working our Hargrave pipeline, Tyler Beard of Georgetown is available.
