The purpose was to let them see how potentially damaging it can be to have a reputation as a liar. Mind you, these are 11 and 12-year-olds. Now I'm wondering if this might also apply to a grown adult constantly spewing sarcasm online. When I taught Sociology at Plymouth in the late 70s, I often worked a song into the lesson. For some reason, the kids seemed to grasp the point much better when they could actually hear the words. He is even HARDER to figure out than the boy who cried wolf, because he mixes in these moments where he comes back and says no I was serious, when I really don't think he was. He may be doubling down on the sarcastic snark, or he may be back pedaling for some reason. It's all a maddening mystery. Mocking a poster who is excited about something by acting like Ohio is big time is right up BTC's alley so I'm not sure why he is claiming to be serious.
