Groce gets a draftee from a MAC school and the conference continues a pretty strong run of producing NBA talent.

(If we could not talk about the portal for once, that’d be great.)

Congrats to Freeman!

Would Groce be now coaching D-III if Enrique had not appeared on his door step. Think of the job Rob Senderoff would now have if Freeman had shown up on Kent's campus as a freshman to go with Sincere and the supporting cast. Several MAC championships and a few Dance victories for the fFlashes no doubt. Heck he would have upset the Enrique Zips in '24 if not for an un timely player brain fart.

Some times you'd rather be lucky than good..

Love to see it. Hopefully he doesn't live out the most familiar path of a late 2nd round NBA pick of frustrating roster juggling and never really getting a chance.

Whether he makes it all the way to a consistent NBA roster or not, Freeman is still a heck of a story. Walk-on to MAC POTY to NBA draft pick. Richaun Holmes from BGSU has been somewhat of a regular on an NBA roster since 2015, with his NBA game action tapering off a bit for the last two years (injury or performance, I don't know). He's about the same height as Freeman, maybe a little more polished offensively, but I wouldn't be all that shocked to see Freeman follow a similar career arc.

Very happy for Freeman. What a player and by all accounts an amazing human. Always wanted him to not put up big numbers against us, but this is guy who was impossible to root against when he played against other teams not named Ohio.

Well done.

At the pro level, could he be a Dennis Rodman type?

Him and Oscar Tshiebwe could form the most dominant rebounding team in G-League history.

With that said, it feels unlikely they have two players of a similar ilk only one has proven to be dominant, and much bigger.

I've been following him, because I'm flabbergasted he can't get NBA time, he has been dominant like prime dwight howard. Tshiebwe averaged 16.4 points and 16.1 rebounds per game in just 27 minutes per game... a per-48 average of 28.6 rebounds per game. He had 20+ rebounds in more than 20% of his games lol just bananas

I dunno specifics, but have heard a lot of reference from people like Zach Lowe to the idea that G League stats basically don't translate much to the NBA and that there's a sense that lack of defense at that level leads to inflated numbers. It's definitely the case that guys put up bigger numbers in the G League than in top leagues in Europe.
