The Athens News today published one of those Athens Voice drive-by call-in statements saying that Jeff Boals is living in New Albany. Any truth to this? Or is this in the same category as McDavis living in Lancaster and flying a helicopter to the Albany Airport ever morning?

Could be someone being facetious. Even if not, it's really not that much of an issue. Lots of professors and other Ohio employees live outside the Athens area. I know of at least one professor who taught at Ohio for 30 years or so but lived in Westerville. One current department head lives in northern Fairfield County. Her daughter was in my son's high school graduating class. No big deal if they're available when needed and they get the job done. For me, the issue isn't where an Ohio employee lives but how the University handles inquiries about it. As discussed in a thread in the General message board, I think the University has poorly handled the News's inquiries about the CFO.

FWIW - According to the Athens County Auditor website, no one with the last name Boals owns property in Athens Co. Interestingly, no one with the last name Solich does either.

Solich owned a house in Athens his first few years here. He then sold it. He now lives in a rental in Athens.

Personally, I think for a person in a high-profile position like a head coach of a major sport or an upper level administrator they should live in the Athens area. For Boals, apparently, it was a matter of his daughter wanting to finish her high school swimming career where it started. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't move to Athens once his daughter graduates this spring. And, more important than my opinion, I know many other locals who feel the same way. Public opinion is important in a position of this sort.

Yes I believe he does live in New Albany, and I believe it is more due to his wife's job. I agree with OCF that it is disappointing, but I understand difficult family situations. It does not make me think he will be our coach for long, who wants that commute or living in a hotel or apt away from family? I like and support Jeff, and think he gets a pass, but can you imagine the criticism if TOS had tried that?

This has been known since Day 1. Reported in local news outlets and multiple places over the time he has been here.

Probably less time to get to the Convo that coaches who live in the burbs and commute into the cities. More relaxing time to drive, ponder, think, call coaches and recruits. I know I use my drive time to outlying offices very efficiently and accomplish more because 4 lane rural roads with lite traffic gives me peace and time to work things out.

I would assume it is was a matter of returning to the area they established roots in 2009-2016 while coaching for Ohio State. Makes sense to me.

I’m calling Bullshit here OCF! Bob Bolden spent 5 years living in Chillicothe and you never said shit. Now Boals lives out of town due to family considerations and it matters for boys coaches and not girls. Sorry. That don’t fly! Do what’s best for your family! Has Coach Boals done anything that shows he’s not committed! No offense but you are out of line.

Bob Bolden? For me, I did not know he lived in Chilli and I would have expressed the same disappointment as I have for Boals. I can't speak for your best buddy OCF.

And you’d be an asshole for expressing that. Living an hour a way was best for him and his family. Same with Jeff. Don’t judge anyone from your shoes to there’s.

This is so, so, so dumb.

Jeff Boals took the job at OU, seems to love it, and you know, has us back in the NCAA tournament.

And a segment of our fanbase is disappointed because he's chosen to live somewhere they would prefer he didn't. So, so, so dumb.

Personally, I'm not in the business of telling people I don't know how to live their lives. I wouldn't pretend, even for a minute, to be in a position to understand how and why Boals and his family choose to live where they do, or to try and impose on them my vision for what's important about how they choose to live their lives.

Just to clarify.....does he live in Chilli or Southeastern? Asking for some friends.....

Public opinion is often really stupid. These "locals" should get over themselves. That they have an opinion at all about where Jeff Boals lives is weird. That they think their opinion carries any weight is even weirder.

I don't think expressing disappointment in learning something like this on a fan board equates to my judging him as a person. I'm sometimes disappointed in comments people make on this board, including resorting to name-calling rather than reasoned discussion, and if that makes me an asshole in your mind then I guess I'm an asshole in your mind.

Rhetoric here is getting a little out of hand. Yes, I said that I would be disappointed if Boals doesn't move to Athens when his daughter graduates. I do understand that his daughter wanted to finish high school where she had been before he went to Stony Brook. I also said that I knew a lot of others who would feel the same way. I didn't say that I would disown the Bobcats or want Jeff fired. I just said that I would be disappointed. I didn't know about Bob, or I would have expressed the same thoughts. Can't Grover and I have a different opinion than yours without being called names?

Nah. I kept my apartment there for when I had to cover late games or city council meetings when I worked at newspapers. And once I started working in factories, nobody cares. Just show up on time.

WCMH4 TV had a story on Coach Boals the other night. It was kind of tongue and cheek about Coach Boals' better half and daughter teasing him that the pressure is on him because his daughter's New Albany team won the state Division I Swim tournament. I am sure it might have surprised some viewers, but he seemed comfortable sharing the info. I had heard that this was the arrangement agreed to when he returned from Stony Brook since the family had previous New Albany connections. I had no idea if that was true or not, but apparently this story seems to corroborate it.

It seems from what I heard that this will be the arrangement. I had heard that his wife previously had a job in the vicinty and liked the New Albany area. Again, never said anything on this board because I didn't know if there was any truth to it. Apparently that's the case. I have no idea if this is what Coach Boals wanted, but it seems clear that this is what the entire family wants, so it probably won't change since they have become accustomed to it.

Let's hope that they become so accustomed to it that no big time program like the Hoosiers etc will be able to lure him away, because the Boals family likes the arrangement they currently have. We shall see, but there will surely be speculation the deeper the Bobcats go into the tournament this year and the years to come. A lot of people in Columbus (media types especially) like Coach Boals and remember his accessibility to them. Memories of him will only grow fonder after Buckeye debacles like what was witnessed today.

Anybody know what kind of car Jeff Boals drives? If it's not a Toyota Camry, I'm going to be disappointed.
