Akron leads 38-18 at the half. Hitting 9-17 from three to Kent's 1-11. If Akron hangs on, we'll be tied with Kent for third place.

66-56 Akron with 2:42 to go.

Kent's without Hamilton tonight. Haven't heard why.

Kent came within five with 1:50 to go but Akron pulled away, 72-61. Akron played with a lot of energy in the first half, but slowed it down in the second and Kent was able to get back in the game. Kent had about five good minutes, but was really sloppy and lackadaisical most of the night. It was a two-man show on offense for Akron. Trimble was the hot shooter -- 26 pts including 7-10 from three. The rest of the team 4-15 from three. Jackson had 21 pts and 8 assists, but only 9 of 23 from the field. Nobody else had more than six pts or put up more than five shots.

Dakich absolutely eviscerated Kent and Pippen in the second half over lack of effort. Other than the fact that Akron went brain dead after they got up 17 with about 5 minutes left, Dan thought Kent embarrassed themselves they gave such a lame performance. Was stunned how critical he was of the Senderoff’s team.

Dakich might've felt a little braver sitting at home instead of on the sideline of an empty gym where Senderoff could've heard him.

You mean this Dan Dakich who had and 89 and 89 MAC record?

From 1997 to 2007 he served as the head coach at Bowling Green State University where he compiled a record of 156–140 (.527). He coached one player who signed a professional contract[citation needed], including former Indiana Pacers guard Keith McLeod. During Dakich's tenure, BGSU never made it to the NCAA Tournament. Dakich had losing seasons in four of his last five years with BGSU, and resigned as head coach in 2007.[5]

Yeh, that's a guy I would hold up as an expert.

Not to mention, what’s Sendoroff going to do? Cowher like he did in the Convo when he got to brave. Rob wants no part of any other head coach or guy the size of Dakich.

He has an axe to grind with Sendy. Makes mention of him often and holds him partially accountable for Samson and Sendy's roles in the IU debacle that ended in NCAA Probation. I was impressed by how much he held back on the broadcast...and Kent did not play till the last 6 mins...that missed dunk opportunity was just typical of the effort....being in Indy for the broadcast probably was good thing.

One of my few encounters with Sendy was in the BP at Englewood OH. Said congrats on getting the Kent job days after it was announced. He was a total D*cK in response...I don't think it was just my OHIO Basketball T shirt either....

Though I've never met the man, I do not find this surprising from what I've read about him and my personal observations from the stands when he's been in the Convo.

Geez Alan, I reread my post and damned if I can find where I claimed Dakich to be an “expert”. I’m no fanboy of Dakich as I couldn’t give a rat’s arse about the guy. My only reason for the post was his being unabashedly critical of Kent’s effort. On the extremely rare occasions I happen to catch a game he is doing, he appears to trumpet the MAC which I think is a positive of the guy. Obviously he is no longer in coaching so I guess others like you have figured out he’s no “expert”.

ESPN announcers doing UA-KSU game as well as CBSSN announcers doing Saturday's UT-BSU game both suggested this year should be the year mid-major conferences receive multiple NCAA bids. The CBSSN announcer mentioned Toledo as an example of a team that should get an at-large bid if it doesn't earn an automatic one.

Let me be the first to say that, even though I agree with this line of thought, the MAC will again end up on the short end while the big 10, sec, big 12 get teams in with mediocre records.

Agreed. Toledo has moved up in the NET rankings (from 72 last week to 48 today) but they're still a bubble team. The next highest MAC team is Akron at 82, and Toledo plays just one team with a ranking higher than 161 through the end of the season. So Toledo's probably not going to get much higher in the rankings, especially after losing to BSU today (NET ranking 198).

We were watching many many games today as they started talk of the tourney. By the time the UNC Dook game came on they said UNC was listed as a last 4 in....because my wife's name is Drake she has been watching them all year... the remark after they were talking about UNC's road to March Madness was "watch Drake lose one game in the regular season and their conference tourney so UNC can get in with a lousy record"

I could not say that isn't a possibility. CBS guys are right...this should be a year for mids ....but it just ain't gonna happen.

bizarre year when the doookies-heels game wasn't listed among the top 25 games yesterday.

Today's NET rankings:

UNC 50
Syracuse 54
Duke 70
Kentucky 80

None is really guaranteed a slot in the Dance. When was the last time all four of these teams needed to play their way into the NCAA tourney in the same year?

BTW, Toledo's loss to BSU yesterday dropped the Rockets from 48 to 61.

Unless there is a huge run here soon, I will be seriously annoyed if any of those 4 are selected for the tournament.
