As well as we have been playing Marshall is no slouch either and its on the road. Vegas is going to consider this a tossup.

Click on the link that Ted provided above. It's something like $6.95 for a one-day pass.

Saw most of their game against Wright State. They still push the pace but they aren't as 3-happy as they were a few years ago. Best player is Taevion Kinsey, who was recruited by Saul. He's an athletic slasher more than a shooter but he scored 31 against WSU. Listed at 6'5" but his long arms make him look taller to me. We will need to control the pace and keep our turnovers down.

I think the Herd has a nationally-ranked recruiting class as well. Something like #114.

I remember the game against Marshall at home a few years ago when Kinsey played as a Freshman. He had some bounce but couldn't shoot a lick. I wanna say he may have even had a dunk that was impressive. BVP had 18 and Jason Carter had a double-double and Ohio scored over 100 and won though.

Played Xavier tight a couple days later and it seemed as if things might be turning around in Saul's favor...but then it wasn't. Ohio was 8-4 heading into Christmas and MAC play, BVP goes down with injury and we are screwed.

Kinsey, who Ohio recruited hard out of Columbus, was the best player in the warmup lines during pre-game in the Convo 2 years ago. Not so much when the game counted.

But he was part of an impressive recruiting class.

Agree.

I think that Ohio has an advantage inside. Marshall has some bigs who can play, but I think Vander Plas and Wilson give us an edge. Wright State hurt them inside until Marshall went on their run in the second half.

Cannot let Kinsey go off on us. I think we have defenders who can match up with him. It will help if Roderick is available. I'm guessing that Lunden will be the primary defender on Kinsey.

PG Jarrod West can hurt you, too. He's streaky.

Their home court advantage is always tough to overcome. Limiting live ball turnovers is important to keep them from getting revved up.

Does this still hold true in 2020?

Maybe not. I guess we will see Sunday. They are allowing fans in there, but not sure how many or how much noise they'll make.

It'll be interesting when all of this is behind us to see the home-court (field, pitch) winning % w/ no/few fans v. winning % pre-pandemic.

Is Borna one of the few lucky ones allowed to attend the game?

We were chuckling with Borna about this in the CSU game chat.

Per Sagarin, Marshall is favored by 4.5

There have been lots of studies in the past that seem to suggest the home field advantage is a product of the comforts and familiarity of home and not related to the crowd much at all.

I've seen studies (maybe the second freakonomics book, or the similar sports version) that said the officials can be persuaded by fans. There are home/road splits for fouls/infractions called that benefit the home team. Not sure that occurs the same in an empty arena.

I agree. NFL home field advantage declined a fair amount with the advent of replay.

I know we've played and beaten some really bad teams (besides 2pt loss to Illinois) but man, ESPN's basketball power index (BPI) gives Marshall a 65.3% of winning. I realize it's just some automated computer metric but still.

ESPN's BPI
#73 - Marshall (2nd in C-USA)
#103 - Ohio (Highest in MAC)

If past home games for Marshall are any indication, they are allowing about 1500 or so fans into each game. This might be the only chance Bobcat fans get to see their team on the court in person this year. Not a bad drive for a Sunday afternoon game.

I actually think we will have an advantage inside on the entire MAC as well. I don't know a better trio than Wilson, BVP and Miguel. It looks like Boals lit a fire until Rifen and Wilson is only gaining more and more confidence. I am sure he loves playing with Preston! We do need B-Rod back because he is our gunslinger who can open the inside up. Without him we don't have that one guy who seemingly can hit a 3 anytime.
