A great story. I was impressed with his direct and articulate answers to the questions in the video with Andy Katz. . He appears to be bright and thoughtful. In the last game he didn’t seem the least bit concerned about scoring a lot of points, instead passing first. By all appearances he is a unique player and we are blessed to have him playing for us.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting article with lots of additional insights into my favorite current Bobcat and a member of my personal all-time Ohio team. He's a great person and a great basketball player. A wonderful representative of our alma mater. I'm proud he's wearing Ohio green and white!

This is a good article to read. I do wonder how does he compare to amon basset or dj cooper. Do we need to worry he'll go to the NBA after this season. The bigger schools like Kansas and Kentucky are used to that thing and can get top notch talent to replace that year. We however are not able to do that and aren't used to that happpening. As such we're not prepared if it does. Look what happened when Gary Trent left early . It became a domino effect. Trent left then Simmons graduated the following year . The net result was the 1997-98 disaster that amazingly didn't get then coach Larry hunter fired. Hopefully Jason will stay on and our team can prosper .

I'm greedy...but please basketball gods...give us one more year of this kid wearing a Bobcat uniform. If you think this year is going to be good, just wait for 2021-2022 when Preston and BVP are seniors.

"Armon" Basset was not a PG - he did though have the quickest first step I ever saw. Too early to fairly compare to DJ - after this full year though that becomes a very relevant comparison topic.

I think I can safely say that no matter what happens with JP after this season that we will never see a '97-98 disaster type season on Boals watch.

Never say never, takes a couple of injuries an unforeseen circumstances. In Larry's long career, that was definitely an aberration and not the norm.

I would say it's more likely to happen in today's game than it was to have happened back then. It really was the perfect storm back then but with grad transfer rules, social media disasters and players being more likely to transfer these days being left with a barren roster seems less of a stretch.

I just felt Larry never took full advantage of recruiting post Trent years. He had the buzz surrounding the program at an all-time high then, but never got the talent that I felt he should have the next 2-3 years following Trent's departure. I just don't see this happening post Preston era with Boals.

I don't think the recruiting classes worked out great but if memory serves me weren't Diante Flenorl and Sanjay Adell considered big gets at the time? I know Flenorl was.

Adell played on that team, and was quite a player in the years that followed. Flenorl never really became the scorer we expected and also had knee issues. Was that the year he sat out with the injury? Larry wasn't fired because we knew we had proven help on the way with Stonerook and Whitehead.

Yes, both top 100 and Basra was a top 50.

Basra Fahkir (sp?) was Top 50?

Agree that Sanjay and Diante were considered great recruits at the time.
