Does this mean bars can sponsor players?

I've seen crazier things happen.

Just another nail in the NCAA coffin.

As an athlete, do you go to a P5 school and earn $$$ from major media marketing outfits, or do you go to a non-P5 school and hope for peanuts from local radio and adverts for Billy Joe Bob's Buick dealership?

Just break the P5 away from the rest already. Drop the "student". Pay them and be done with it. Let the rest be actual amateur college student-athletes and compete for talent with resources on a level playing field.

This is dumb.

Yep, sky's still there.

As with any marketing and endorsement - only a few, elite players will benefit. Any player that goes to a P5 school and is able to really take advantage of this would not be considering a MAC or equal type conference team as a recruit.

Yes, the Trevor Lawrence's will stand to make significant dollars, but the Clemson offensive guard will not, Yes, the Nathan Rourke's will get some money in his pocket, but our offensive guard will not need to comb through stacks of contracts.

And. no, Miami does not need a hire brand consultant to work with their stable of athletes. Again, will only impact a handful at most.

The Marshall's of the world can become relevant again. These endorsement deals are basically what they kept getting in trouble for. Will be no time until the value of marketing packages are bundled with the recruiting pitch. Again, could the NCAA *actually member schools could have done better over the years*, but there are reasons these rules were put into place in the first place. And this will effect basketball more than football.

The schools aren't supposed to get involved (that will have to be policed somehow), so as long as that's in place, I'm good with this.

Since you've invoked my name, I'll chime in! I don't think it's optimal and it is fraught with trouble, angles and loopholes. But as you know I've been harping on the money making for everyone but the 'student athletes" and knew things would have to change. The new D League salary option or play overseas will change things for basketball, but not football. If coaching salaries were more in line with professors or admin personnel it wouldn't be necessary. Duane Nellis makes a shade under 500k. Boals and Solich make more, but not outrageously so. I would argue that we shouldn't be paying those guys more than the president, as we don't make money from athletics.

Now let's take Alabama.Their president makes 535k and Saban makes 7.5M. Now, they make money on football but players don't get any. I'm not for that.
