FYI: Contract for the new Marshall basketball coach for you that might be interested.

Cornelius Jackson’s contract as the next mens basketball coach at Marshall is a three-year deal worth up to $450,000.

$350k is the base salary and up to $100k in performance-based incentives and includes a mutual buyout clause.

@marshallu
BoG just approved the contract.

Marshall cares way more about the football program than they do basketball. If they were hiring a new football coach, they would do much better than that small salary.

That they do, however, they are suffering from the same fate of many Universities across the country. Ironically though in WV things seems even better, because Billionaire businessman and governor Justice and his administration seem to not be able to find $425 million in Covid-19 funds for education. The state has had their ratings downgraded in the past year.

The basketball coach situation is fairly complicated due to the influence of some major donors and state politics. I would imagine if the new coach is successful, he will receive a new contract with a major salary increase. The new coach only has a three year contract. If he doesn't turn it around, Marshall will invest in a new coach and give the person a competitive mid major salary. JMO

FWIW: I believe the Governor came up with $13.8 million (total cost of $23 million) for the new Marshall baseball stadium that just opened up a few weeks ago. I believe the money came from Covid funds.

The WV legislature gave Marshall $45 million last summer for the new cyber security building. WVU asked the legislature for the same amount of money to deal with their budget problem, but were not given any money. Strange times in WV.

This move by Marshall to elevate the top assistant at a modest salary is not unusual in today's climate.

In the meantime, the Governors resort owes Greenbrier County $2.3 million in back taxes and $3.5 million in back state taxes. Don’t even look at what he owes the Feds in safety fines from his mines.

While this thread is on a Jimmy Justice tangent ("FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!!"), not to mention he's a lame duck governor, term limits.

So he's running for Senator to replace Manchin (who I've heard wants the WVU President gig if/when Gee ever steps down)

And Justice will more than likely win. Amazing, guy doesn't pay his debts or follow the laws, and he's revered.

That’s about the right number for a mid major program. When your program doesn’t make money the salary should be in line with a dean and not more than the president.
