With various posts about game start times, I thought it would be interesting to see where people are coming from for the games.

These results are very interesting although far from scientific. It appears that the majority of fans on this site attending games, assuming they actual attend games vs. if they did, it takes them that long to get there, are outside a 2 hour radius. On the flip side, we seem to be totally missing the 15 to 45 minute out fans which would be the counties that surround Athens.

As far as season tickets go, an easy way to create a "seat map" would be to run the zip code of each season ticket holder. You would see concentrations and voids very quickly.

In Albany. That's where Albany International Airport is. So 15 min. or less.

If I/270-33 interchange backed up - anywhere from 1:30 to 1:45. If not - and drive back to Cbus after games 1:15. Have made it in 1:10 - And no speeding tickets (yet)

I took special note of this last game because of the complete lack of Ozone at the game. Yes, they still went thru the area and random people almost all non-students came down to give high fives.

No agenda here, Alan made a comment from first hand observation that he knows quite a few folks who gave up season tickets and who came to every game on Wednesday and Saturday, who for whatever reason have not come back.

This is pretty much my deal as well - 1:30 to 1:40, especially if I leave early in rush hour. Getting home at night is easy to do in 1:15 to 1:20 without going more than 6-8mph over the posted number.

Not at all. I have no idea why all of these people let their tickets lapse and many of them were not Green and White Club members. My comments were strictly from my experience as a sales and marketing rep and executive. Once a customer leaves a company, it's very difficult to get them back and the longer they are gone, the tougher it is to regain their business. Nothing more, nothing less.

I believe it might be related to the firing of Larry Hunter, an Athens favorite! At the time, I heard a number of people say they'd never go to another Ohio BB game.

Fair enough, and I take you at your word. That said, it�s odd to even reference people who weren�t brought back by two NCAA tournament teams, a player who made the NBA, an all-time PG, MAC championships, etc. Those fans are gone forever and it�s a waste of time and energy to try to get them back.

I�m more interested in getting back the people who trickled off in last five years of dull play and losing MAC records. I�d like to recapture an era where a disappointing crowd is around 5,000 and students actually filled the Ozone. That was reality a lot less than 10 years ago. And there�s a long way to go. As an example, I�ve offered my tickets to watch a B1G team in the Convo basically for free and no one has asked be for them. Kinda sad.

This is a good point, and should really be the target. This poll is interesting because it makes me think about who and where the ticket buying base is located. I'm wondering what the percentage of season ticket holders are that are from the circle that surrounds Athens inside about 45 minutes - Parkersburg/Marietta, Lancaster, Jackson, etc., plus simply just locals in Athens County. I would imagine that's who fills seats on Wednesday nights most often. Beyond that, I wonder what percentage of tickets are sold to Alumni & fans in Columbus and surrounding areas.

As one who drives 85-95 minutes, in the past 5-7 years, I generally try to get to all the weekend games, and at least 2-3 weeknight games. My rule I attempt to follow is one game a week. This week I'm doing two, however I've missed the last 3-4. I was able to offer my tickets to BA'ers and friends in a couple cases. I was not able to get, as it stands now, all of my tickets used for tonight. 9pm tip time was a deterrent for some non-Bobcat friends on a school night. If it were their alma mater, I think they'd have done it.

I was going to post sarcastically that half or more of these folks were kin to Larry, who has extended family -- cousins, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. -- all over the county. His family was one of the pioneer families in Athens County, and I believe that Ohio University's first graduate, John Hunter, was an ancestor. Tom Ewing was actually the second graduate, contrary to many university news release to the contrary. It was a two person graduating class, and Hunter had the better grades so he technically graduated first, as was the custom in those days.

Seriously, though, your point is well taken. I think the new AD would be wise to institute a marketing campaign to entice these folks back. As Alan points out, it's difficult, but it might be worth the effort. Somewhere the AD's office must have a list of the folks who quit buying season's tickets at about that time. Or such a list could be generated via a little research. A directed mailing to them, with some kind of a special one-time offer for former season ticket holders, might entice some of them back. It might be pointed out that our new coach is the first alumnus in the position since Larry Hunter, that might appeal to them. Just a random thought or two meant to be constructive.
