I gotta say he's the most impressive young guy since DJ Cooper in program.

Really looking forward to his next 2+ seasons.

I mostly like his game, but I hope his jumper gets fixed at some point. He shoots like a grade schooler and it kind of spoils the rest of his game for me.

I've said since his freshman year that we need to keep him above anyone else after Saul left. His ceiling is very high I think 1st Round NBA high.

I mean, that's fine if you don't personally worry about his jump shot. He's not a good outside shooter based on percentages or just watching his form. I guarantee it's a major focus of the coaching staff and anyone who advises him on a potential pro career.

Unorthodox doesn't accurately describe his main issue. Unorthodox could mean anything. Shooting from his chest, like a grade schooler who doesn't have enough strength yet, is a much more accurate description for anyone who hasn't seen him play.

I was as guilty as anyone in harping on changing TK's jump shot while he was here. Stepping back and thinking about it now, I don't think it's practical to drastically "change a kid's shot" at this level. Think about this. Most of these guys have been playing basketball since they were what, 5-7 years old? If they are 20 now, how can you expect to change someone's shot mechanics if they have been virtually the same for over a decade? How many hundreds of thousands of jump shots have been taken with those mechanics? If it was completely "broken," maybe I'd feel different about it. I don't think it is.

TK had this past off-season, all of this season and next off-season to work on his mechanics. It's not something that can be changed over night but his situation allows him the time to overhaul his form.

I see this as a two-way street. Our players need to keep their heads up and on a swivel when Preston has the ball, because a pass could be coming their way at anytime. Also, part of Preston's growth and development will include him better understanding the skill sets of his teammates. I'm confident this will come with time.

When I was a sports writer in New York back in the 1980s and NBA players would fool around in some of our pickup games, the Lakers' Magic Johnson, for example, would lead a writer to the cup by delivering a basic bounce pass that would come up waist high and was easily handled. When he was diming to a pro player, he'd whip something that even the Harlem Globetrotters would marvel at. And they'd handle it. And the writers were like, "Damn!"

Jason wants to be great. I'm confident he'll hone in on this as time goes on. Remember, there's only a few players left who he played with last season. He'll get it. And so will they!!!

Maybe Tommy Freeman’s dad will chime in, but I believe they made some very significant changes to his shot either right before college, or after his freshman year.

Players change their shots a lot. Especially kids who shoot from their chest. It’s fixable and without question should be fixed. Hopefully this summer.

That's Fair - I hadn't considered that angle. I love what we're seeing from Jason, I just see him as an excellent mid-major player thus far.

To me, the things Preston currently lacks to be elite is quickness and effective jump shooting. The size thing I agree with, and he seems to have a knack for 'right place, right time', which I don't think is an easily teachable/trainable thing.

I noticed that he looks considerably stronger/built than he did last year. Weight room seems to be paying off which can be a tough thing for a basketball player to embrace. I know most would much rather be in the gym shooting jumpers than in the weight room.

DJ Cooper was a subpar shooter from three point range also, so lets not act like JP's percentages are so bad that it takes away from the rest of his game. DJ hovered around 30% his whole career and then hit 36% as a senior. JP has plenty of time to improve his shot. His size will afford him more opportunities for growth and game development.

Yes indeed jumps to #3, ironically just in front of Iowa State's Tyrese Haliburton...a top target of Saul's that nearly came to Ohio.

He is #2 in terms of sheer number of assists. It should also be noted that Jason is 6th in the country in Turnovers. He also is tied for 9th in the country in minutes per game at 37.3.

Boals mentioned in a recent article that he’s up 16 pounds from last year. That seems like a lot to me. It seems to be paying off.

His lack of explosiveness worried me last year, but he has that ability to force the game to play at his pace, even against a team like Villanova. I’m not comparing him to Luka or anything, but it’s a skill he has. To make everyone else play at his same methodical speed. I didn’t understand that last year but it’s become pretty clear to me this year.
