For those of you who have not followed this team closely,look at the high ceiling this team has in the coming years if it stays injury free and if Bolden (big if) is here for a few more years. This year the starting 5 has played the vast majority of minutes and in the games they lost they were often hurt by foul trouble. One of the starters, Dominique Doseck, is a senior. Burke is a junior. Burris and Hooks are sophomores. Johnson is a freshman. Of the five other players that are eligible this year two are seniors but Olivia Bower and Kendell Jessing, while their loss hurts, have not played a lot of minutes. The other three (Beck, Bambule, Rogan) are freshmen. Katie Barker started most of the games last year and missed this year with an injury. Caitlyn Kroll was NEC freshman of the year and first team all NEC in 2018 and comes of a transfer redshirt next year. Because Hannah Thome, who missed the last couple of years battling injury, graduated there are four open scholarships. So if I'm not mistaken for 2019-2020: Seniors Amani Burke Juniors Cece Hooks Katie Barker (assuming she gets an injury redshirt) Gabby Burris Caitlyn Kroll (I think this is right as she already redshited once) Sophomores Erica Johnson Deesh Beck Katie Bambule Hunter Rogan Freshman Alexandra Antonova (6'2" big who redshirted this year coming from Moscow, Russia) Probably four new recruits. With 70+% of minutes played returning next year, two starter level players coming off a missed season, and possibly only one senior next year this team looks loaded going forward if everything holds together. Another big, Abbie Garnett, is currently redshirting and will be in the freshman class with Antonova. There are also two other scholarships already accounted for. Peyton Guice, 5'9'' guard out of Westerville South, and Ella Pope, 5'11' forward out of Utah. Her father is former NBA player and current Utah Valley men's coach Mark Pope. Still two other open schollies. Another post player would be nice, then take best available with the other. Of all the teams left in the Elite 8 only Ohio has to play (and travel) on one day's rest. I'm confident this team can dig deep and find a way to pull out a victory. You're not done...get #31! She's a little older than the core of talented players on one of the best teams in school history. She doesn't quite posses the talent of some of the younger players but, to me, she has that future D1 coach look to her. It is hard to tell from the outside exactly how much that loss of player leadership has of hurting next year's team. Anyway, enough about next year. GO BOBCATS! BEAT NORTHWESTERN! It is anchored by a good rebounder and shot-blocker, 6'2" Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah. The Wildcats were also effective in slowing WVU down with a full-court press. Although three-pointers are not emphasized, 6'2" forward Abi Scheid is an efficient three-point shooter, as are guards Jordan Hamilton and Veronica Burton. The best offensive player is probably Lindsay Pulliam, who features a nice mid-range game. Northwestern always got points to hang around just enough. Fouls and free throws were a big difference. The Bobcats lost in the final minute with their two leading scorers fouled out (and with Doseck with four). Ohio was 11 of 16 at the line, Northwestern was 23 of 29. Rebounds were a big difference as usual because Ohio is smaller than almost every team it plays but it forced more turnovers to even that out. I think no doubt Ohio was better and would win the majority of the times the teams played but it only got the one chance unfortunately. It was an awesome season, though, and next year could be even better.
