Arkley tweets that again, Schaus will value head coaching experience and wants an expert recruiter. Will use a search firm to help arrange interview logistics, but already has a list.

Great. SMH.

That makes me think he already has a guy in mind.

It would be my hope that he's had a list of 8-10 guys in mind for the last two months.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if he had the list 12 months ago after he decided not to grant an extension.

Four criteria:
1. Plays a brand of basketball that is attractive to players and exciting to fans
2. Can connect with players - i.e., recruit - see #1 as part of this package.
3. Is engaging to students. Saul was great at the Rotary lunch, we need a Nee that can walk into a dorm and get students revved up
4. Either head coaching and/or assistant at high level.

I know Boals is hot on some lists - Will defer to others regarding his ability to recruit - what recruiting did he personally and specifically do at OSU?

I do not know his style of ball. In the interviews I have seen on youtube, he does not address #3 - others may know of another side to him.

You nailed it on other thread with the lack of confidence in JS given the lame duck year this year as a great example. And a search firm is such a waste of money. He knows who he wants. He just wants to search firm so he can be "stealth" in the deal and also not expose his candidates to possible athletic department leaks to the media etc. To me that's another point of weakness- control your own house and there has to be someone in-house who can logistically handle this process instead of paying a firm 50K to do it.

The search firm is window dressing. We have the JS one-man search committee and one-man focus group at work here. We'll see what they (he) comes up with.

Maybe Nellis is requiring one. A new thought.

Certainly a logical possibility, but my gut tells me that it's probably not the case. My gut is right about 56.78 percent of the time! ;-)

When my gut tells me something, it’s right 99.9% of the time, but that’s another story.

Wonder if it's Bob Beaudine the guy who conducted our last AD search.

a couple thoughts...

after Treg's post I'm even more impressed with Saul. I loved the hire and I'll always hold him in high regard.

i have zero to add on whom Ohio should target. I imagine the eventual hire will be a Google search for me to learn about him.

i was really impressed with Kennedy after the Huggins sitch in Cincy.

How bout getting Jim Baron out of retirement! Paul Green Baron was best white boy shooter before Dave Jamerson! Would be great fit! Over 400 wins as coach!

Jim Barron = Jim Christian. Just a slightly different chin.

Remember that this thread is for actual news about the coaching search. We have another thread for speculation from BA posters.
