They are 3-0 in the MAC but I get the feeling they are due for a loss.

That Javonte Brown swing and miss HURTS. Though it wasn't for a lack of trying. If I remember correctly Boals mentioned, quietly, it was going to cost six figures.

In 18 minutes he's averaging 15 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1 block.

Think they might have a 2025 MAC PoY candidate on their hands. (If he doesn't go back to P5)

He did next to nothing at UConn and Texas A&M. I suppose maybe it was hard to know in advance if he was going to be Wiznitzer or Shaq at his next stop.

Now that the NCAA has thrown away any resemblance of having rules anymore, maybe he can go back to another p5 school? Play college ball until he's 26 years old?

But what I noticed about the WMU roster is they have like 5 or 6 guys 6-9 or taller and we have one. We might win this game but gonna get killed on the boards.

Why do people keep saying the NCAA has thrown out rules. You have states suing in federal court the rules you’d like to stay in place. Organizations like the NCAA and OHSAA, KHSAA, you name the AA, they can not fight the legislatures or today’s courts. It’s like when I watch people blame High School athletic associations about school choice and transfers. Like the NCAA they can’t regulate it, it’s above their pay grade.

In a 9–0 unanimous decision, the Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s decision that NCAA restrictions on “education-related benefits” for college athletes violated antitrust law. So, yeah, N I L was decided pretty far up the chain of command.

Whether it was the SCOTUS who made them toss out out the rules or whatever, they still got tossed. As far as the portal, no sitting out, etc etc - however it happened, it happened.

Exactly, but again, the NCAA, FAA, SEC, you pick the acronyms cannot set rules that violate the court orders, or federal or state law. Just put the blame where it belongs, it's the politicians and government that have given you this system.

And it's funny, I know many who despise the governing bodies and want the state government to get involved, but yet hate everything the government does get involved in. Irony at it's finest.

Second rule anymore: swim with the sharks or get eaten

Vandy football that went to bowls three years in a row under James Franklin and beat their notorious cheating rivals from Knoxville in 2012; 2013; 2016; 2017; 2018 but since fell into football oblivion... what happens when you don't swim with the sharks.

When the portal opens wide after the end of this basketball season, is Boals going to be primed to pick the bones of other schools defections or what?

According to WFAN out here, NIL's and the Transfer Portal are the two moan reasons Saban decided to retire.

He's quoted as saying that NIL's and the Transfer Portal are turning college football into pro football.

Is it not possible to simply disapprove of their methods, fiscal responsibility and overall quality of service provided? To despise them does not necessarily mean to think they should not exist, but are just unacceptable in their current state.

A lot of people, especially coaches, loved the days when they were free to jump from job to job at the drop of a hat but players had to sit out a year when transferring. Those days are OVER.

The NCAA didn't "throw out the rules." But the ignored the obvious for a very long time. Anybody paying slight attention knew where this was headed, and understood how courts would view the NCAA's business model.

And they didn't do anything about it. So they may not be responsible for the current set of rules, but they're a governing body and the mere fact that all of the rules changed so massively and they were left flat-footed is the NCAA's fault.

They had a decade to figure this out. They chose to do nothing.

You could argue they had longer than a decade. The NCAA vs. Board of Regents case in 1984 set this whole thing into motion with the age of television for college athletics. It's be a slow build to the point we're at now.

Just heard a follow story about the pro football reference, on WFAN.

They said this situation is worse then the NFL.

Its more of the Wild Wild West.

When it comes to the Transfer Portal and NIL's the NCAA has no control.

They said at least in the NFL you have enforceable contracts.

There's nothing like that for the NCAA.

There was a time when a school that didn't have long-standing football tradition could find a niche in something else that didn't take 85 top (now top notch PLUS highly paid) athletes, a sport where less players are needed and kick butt at it. Think UConn women's basketball and Vanderbilt baseball. But now there is a danger that the biggest of the big athletic programs will try to ruin that too.

TCU and Vandy and Wake Forest are in the pre-season top 10 in baseball still this upcoming season but the days of that might end up over if the mega-size state schools decide they want to dominate that too. UConn has fallen to #13 in the nation currently in women's hoops. Not long ago, that would have been unheard of. Not coincidentally, traditional football powerhouse LSU happens to be the current defending national champs in that sport.

We are in the beginning of the end of college sports as we've know it.

No one, I repeat no one in the MAC is getting 6 figures. That was nothing more than a sales pitch to get people to feel guilty and give.

I hope he does something to refresh/revive the program come March (if not already in motion). It's pretty stale and disappointing right now and short of the last Dance appearance, has been there for a while back to Phillips. Thankfully in college basketball, 1-2-3 new dudes can really be a shot in the arm and quickly pull out of a slump.

Definitely heard it was in that neighborhood.

Didnt they get a big donation to athletics this year also? Not too hard to believe they’d take a swing.

Anyone else skeptical they're going to get this game in tomorrow?

From the national weather service: Travel could be very difficult and perhaps impossible by Friday night. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and cause power outages.

I imagine the Bobcats will be ahead of that weather today and be in town before it all hits. As long as they're there I don't see why they wouldn't play it.
