He didn’t miss a beat in his return last night night as Akron won at Northern Kentucky on a dunk with 3 seconds left.

Ali Ali had 13 points and 5 assists in 28 minutes. He did have six turnovers, but I’m sure there is a lot of rust there. Bottom line….Akron is the team to beat especially with Ali Ali in the lineup. If you are Ohio, ask yourself who is guarding Freeman and Ali Ali???? On our roster, we don’t have a Freeman or Ali Ali type player.

Not to mention 6-9 Sammy Hunter, who scored 20 v. NKU on 5 of 7 from 3. A 6-9 player who is a better 3-pt shooter (42%) than any of our dozen or so perimeter players. Akron starts 6-9, 6-8 and 6-7 (Freeman, who plays more like 6-11).

No one in the MAC has a Freeman or Ali type player. This is why Akron was picked to win the MAC. This isn’t just a problem for Ohio, it’s a problem for the rest of the entire conference. The good thing about the MAC Tournament is, you don’t need to be better in a best-of-7 series, you just need to better than them for one game. Look how good Toledo was the three prior seasons. Those regular season titles and high seeds didn’t help them one bit in the MAC Tournament. Just gotta take them one game at a time.
