There's an article in The Post about a partial collapse of the roof for building
#7 at The Ridges.
The pictures with the article show this isn't recent.

Guess this will be the next building we get told has to come down.

Rumor is that this is just a ploy to get rid of the wrestling program.

Given how the program is treated by O.U. it wouldn't be a surprise.

Did they ever fix the elevators in Bromley?

Before the school turned it into a dorm, wasn't it a local apartment complex that people viewed as a bit of a status symbol to live in long ago?

As I recall from when I was at O.U., Bromley was built as a private Dorm.

Bromley was built by a group of investors on the East Coast, one of whom had a son who had recently enrolled at OU. When he visited Athens, the father saw the need for a higher-end "dorm" (he was right) and pitched the idea to friends and associates. Tragically, the son was killed in an auto accident and the father pushed the group to divest of the property. The university bought it, then sold it (during the early-70s cash crunch) and bought it again.

Again, as I recall, Bromley had central A/C and its own indoor pool.

You can go back to the BA.com threads from the 70s and find a bunch of old grads bemoaning the youth of the 70s for needing country club accomodations and being spoiled and pampered.

Difference in this case is that this was a for profit privately built dorm.

Oh, I see. So kids these days are pampered and spoiled because of funding models of dorms. Got it.

The exact word used was "prissy". And it wasn't used by me.

Nor me yet your reply was to my post, not the person who said prissy.

Following BLSOS's posts is like watching a never-ending loop of the Monty Python "Dead Pet Store" sketch.

But VERY impressive snip and quote skills as he pursues his mind-numbing arguments.

You're right -- reading and following along does seem pretty hard for a lot of people here.

"Discussing" anything with you is like what we saw in the first debate - two eighth graders sitting at lunch with one saying "your mom wears army boots" and the other retiring but "your sister's so ugly she can crack a mirror."

Per SBH hint, I'm out.

Just so we're clear: I thought it was interesting that Bromley was built to me a "luxury dorm" given that last week, in a different thread and a new luxury dorm, a poster who isn't you called the desire for luxury dorms "prissy and excessive." In that thread, the framing implied this was a generational thing. Or at least, some posters implied as much.

I didn't say this to you, I didn't say it in response to you. In fact, you replied to me with a response about public vs. private funding, which had nothing to do with the comment I made. I have no idea what discussion you even think we're having.

Guessing you have little, if any, knowledge of Bromley back in the 70's. Thus, I forgive your ignorance.

PS May be wise to post relative to subject matter you have real world knowledge of or experience with. Since you MUST get in the last word with anyone/everyone go for it.

Another poster described Bromley as fulfilling a need for a "higher end" end dorm. I responded to that post. If you're upset by that description of Bromley -- and for some weird reason you seem to be -- you should take it up with him.

Did BA.com even exist in the 1970's ?

From everything I've read, wide spread use of the internet by the public didn't really start until 1993-1994.

That's a really good point.
