Never had an 8-track tape, Alan. Had some cassettes and several cassette players. Before that I had some reel-to-reel tape. Before tape, it was record players. Now, I have songs on my iPhone. Want to to know the genre that I have the most of? <drum roll> . . . Civil War music!
Bring the good old bugle, boys, we'll sing another song Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along Sing it as we used to sing it, 50,000 strong[N 1] While we were marching through Georgia. Chorus Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee![N 2] Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free! So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea While we were marching through Georgia.
Now, there's a song that'll get your toes tapping and bring a smile to your face . . . unless you're steeped in Lost Cause mythology.
As I said, I know virtually nothing about Springstein. As my children were growing up they often remarked that their father was the most clueless person they knew when it came to popular culture. My oldest daughter's friends voted me the most "nerdy Dad." Second place went to an OHIO professor who specialized in studying slime molds. My daughter said that it was my ham radio antennas on our roof that put me over the top. It's an award that I felt honored to receive.
