I finally bought the "#1 Party School" poster as seen on www.bananaroad.com, even though I have absolutely no idea where I would display it (I'm such a sucker for Ohio-related merchandise). As I looked at it I started to think about the debates on this site over the party school rankings - whether it's good or bad for us to rank highly, whether or not they affect public perception of Ohio for better or for worse, and so on. I have mixed emotions on the subject, but I have to admit I mostly see it as a point of pride (I guess you can tell since I parted with $10 for the poster). So, I started to think about all the years Ohio *wasn't* number one in the Princeton Review rankings, and about the times Playboy published party school rankings. Maybe I'm biased, but I seem to remember seeing Ohio on all these lists much more often than not, so it seems to me that if a composite ranking were somehow generated from all these lists it's quite possible that Ohio would come out number one overall. Any statisticians willing to give it a go (I'm just a dumb Communications major)? I'm thinking a quick Google search would yield the Playboy rankings over the years, and maybe the Princeton Review data too. (I also seem to remember at least on other publication putting out a ranking of "party schools" - can anyone else think of any?)
Ask and you shall receive... Though I'm not sure I agree with their methodology!
