My understanding is that the new buildings will be more like Bromley -- shared bathroom between two rooms. I heard this on a recent campus visit, but could be mistaken. We visited UC and Xavier this summer, and, both are using a similar approach for rehabbed/new buildings. I liked the idea of relatively small dorms, but think these have to be much more costly to operate -- infrastructure/upkeep, utilities and staffing. With everyone being individually wired and even wireless, I wonder how much our students today want shared social space like the mod. Based on my ancient experience, I agree with JSF's assessment. It's the people with whom you share the space that make the experience. Back in my day, each building had a personality. Some were known be more raucous and others quieter. Most folks self-selected and it worked out pretty well.
