Despite little publicity about the intra squad game which was held at the Athens Rec Center, about 100-150 fans came to watch. The view from ground level in the low bleachers gives a different perspective of the game-the speed and power were intense. The team looks deep and solid and Coach Deane Webb should have good competition at many positions.
A first blush non-expert’s take from this match. Hope some others will chime in on their observations:
The players:
It all starts with Kelly Lamberti, MAC POY who looked awesome.
Chelsea B. is back after a rehab. year. Great to see her on the court. The former MAC All Conference player looked good as she works her way back.
Meredith Ashy, MVP of the MAC tourney last year, is back for her junior year- looking strong as ever.
Abbie Gilleland, another MAC POY and setter of the year in the MAC, back in full force for her junior year.
All MAC Karin Bull looks bigger and stronger- an important part of this team.
And it looks like 2 new players are making their presence known:
Frosh outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek, who can really leave the floor, was playing with the A team.
As was transfer Shelby Walker at MB. These two have solid jump serves which will help give them more playing time.
Brooke Coleman and Mallory Salis, both back for their soph year should be seeing a lot of the court again.
Redshirt frosh Ali Lake was a blocking machine during the match.
Former DePaul player Aubrey Hord and Hannah Burkle should provide solid backup support.
6’4” frosh Katie Nelson was held out of the scrimmage.
OOC schedule is brutal with two top 25 teams (Hawaii and Arizona State) in first 3 matches out in Hawaii next weekend.
Best wishes ladies for a successful season. GO OHIO
