In what may have amounted to a season saving match after a devastating loss to lowly Buffalo Friday night, OHIO upended Akron Saturday to regain sole position of first place in the MAC East.
The loss to Buffalo (16-13, 4-9) was a 5 setter with the Beefs coming from behind to win 11 of the last 15 points in game 5 for a 15-12 victory. Katie Post had a career night with 21 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Entering Saturdays match with Akron, both 7-6 in the MAC, and with ‘Kron winning earlier at the Convo, things must have appeared bleak for the Ladies, especially after losing set 1 20-25 and then being down 18-13 in set 2. But the Cats turned it around winning 25-23 to even the match 1-1. After intermission, OHIO came out flat again and it looked like another loss as they were down 23-17!!, but again came back to win 25-23. OHIO controlled set 4 to seal the much needed win. I have no stats as the Zips scoreboard remains in the Dark Ages. It will be available on the athletic page.
OHIO is now 16-11, 8-6 in the MAC. As Radar mentioned, OHIO finishes the regular season at home next weekend with games against Fiami and BG. The Cats have been underachievers this year, IMO, and maybe the huge comeback win against the Zippies is the start of a big ride. Need a big crowd Friday night.
