Baymont Invitational at the Convo

Three big time schools invade the Convo this weekend as OHIO hosts Tennessee, Pitt., and Northwestern.

Tennessee is currently ranked 14th in the nation, is undefeated, and hasn't lost a set this year. OHIO is back in the rankings this week (35th) after winning the Mo. State tourney. This showdown is scheduled for Friday at 7p.m.

On noon Friday, OHIO plays Pitt who is coming off their 1st win this season. At 2 p.m.Saturday, the Cats host Northwestern who are 4-1.

A n opportunity for the Cats to make a huge statement. Let's get a huge crowd to cheer them on.

Plenty of opportunity to see some quality v-ball this weekend. Pack it for the Friday 7PM match--you know the Athens community will be there. This is a major matchup. The early game is a great chance for students to have a mid-day break loose and yell event.

Saturday, don't whine about nothing to do before you get the burgers on the grill; head to the Convo for the N'western sets and then do some tailgating. Great v-ball is on tap and it is only a few steps away from Peden.

I plan to watch all the games. Where's McKinley?????

We all tried to get a note from Coach Ryan so we could get out of class...ummm...make that work, for Friday afternoon, but it didn't work. See you at the Vols game!

my sasm teacher made the whole class come down for the pittsburgh game. we swept them in three games. if i remember correctly we didnt call a single timeout, while pitt used all of theirs.

I would say pissed away a 13-9 lead in game 5 would better explain what happened!

Longer, taller and stronger. Despite mismatches at many spots the Cats showed they are ready to play at this level. Tonite was a character builder. This team is talented but is still feeling their way around each other. They are gonna learn from this and move on. Still way early in the season. A few serves don't hit the net, a few less lame calls by the 2 folks entrusted to call the game and this thing goes the other way.

I like what I see, Sue, Meryl and Michelle are showing a great deal of poise, excitement and leadership as this team starts to play in synch. That is a very talented UT team.

As for me I am not a very big fan of Orange. I love every time themn jokers get kicked by Florida, UK, Bama or any of the other redneck SEC teams. Gonna be OUr turn soon enough.

I was going to use a slightly less extreme version of this, but this works just fine.

12-7, 13-9, 14-12, yet we still can't win.

One other thing of note, we can't win 5 set home games against non-conference teams anymore.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Actually might have been nice if the officials had made such a commitent as well...

That being said, Borna is dead on.

We'll learn from this --- it was there for the taking and we just couldn't push it over the top. UT is very talented.

I like our team -- nice balance. I think we'll be fine.

Not a good day for the Bobcats. The VB team and the football team both chokes. However, at least the VB team had a little more of an excuse as they did play a quality team and pushed them to the very end. The VB team shows great promise for another exciting year. The football team...........Oh, Well!

Ahhhyes...potshots and personal attacks form the dark. Nice. I live in Muncie. I am not from Muncie, although I would randomly pick 25 Munsonians and 25 followers of any SEC team. I doubt anyone here would have any trouble picking which population exhibits those traits we lovingly refer to as "redneck". I have spent time in SEC land. Can you say the same for yourself spending time in what is classically known as"Middletown USA" ?

Middetown is an ongoing study of Muncie as it has long been the subject of classic sociologic studies that are widely held as a barometer of social trends in America. Not sure I see all that many "rednecks" in Muncie. Maybe a little further south in New Castle and Connersville where we have many translplnts from KY and TN who moved up during and following WW2 to work in the factories and have raised a 2nd generation of kids above the mason dixoon line. Regardless my statement regarding rednecks is something many of my friends in AL, ARK, KY, TN,GA and FL seem to revel in and embrace. They are nothing like the folk I encounter every day in Muncie IN. Not sure what is laughable....my statement or your complete misunderstanding of the midwest folk who make up0 the community that is "Middletown USA"to scho9lrs who come and study the "typical american town"

Make fun of it from behind a psuedonym, you still seem uninformed to me.

On to pertinent things germaine to this thread

Girls got drilled to day by a pretty good Northwestern team, Out of system and overpasses laced with errrant kill shots left the team looking uncharacteristically outmatched. Tough to get anything going. Big 10+2 is loooking like a premier vball conference with Penn State,, Ilinois, Purdue and the like now being joined by Nebraska.. Northwestern is going to be in that group along with Wisky and OSu that are knocking on the door and getting the PAC10 to look over their shoulder with respect. Time to regroup, get healthy and continue to bond as a team throughout the remainder of the season prior to MAC tourney and the NCAA's

Agreed with your comments Borna. I really think we're a much better team when we play at a faster pace like we did against Pitt, keep the passing within a ball or two of the top of the pin/antennae and run the middle more often. We got a little predicable with the back side slide which was run a tad slow on Saturday giving NW way too much time to set their block. As you said though, there are quite a few new faces still getting acclimated to each other.

Morning all,
I was browsing through this weekend trying to catch any matches I could that had top 25 teams in them and happened upon the Ohio vs Tennessee match. Very exciting and I was very impressed with your Bobcats. After more browsing, I found this site along with the Matchpoint site. Both sites have good insight to the match and I agree with the bad passing comments but I also noticed the deeper you got in a match, the more your hitters tipped. I am wondering if this has anything to do with your coach having those big outside hitters play six rotations. Maybe these girls are getting so tired that they just can't get to the ball on time and have to tip. Looked like you have plenty of DS's available. Felt sorry for Sue(?) number 2. Swinging like a mad woman, jump serving and then trying to play middle back!!!! Ouch. I think you are going to have a great team but not like this. Save those girls legs and arms. Let the DS's do their job. It did not look like you would not give up to many points by not having the back row attack. Who knows, maybe one of those DS's might be able to do that also, most of the time they are OH's that were just too short for D1 volleyball.!
Good luck in the future, yours is a team I will definitely keep watching.

Agreed with analysis. As this Post Herman era begins couple withthe loss of meghan and jane in the front row they seem to still be llooking at Sue to deliver the closing punch. I thought by now they would be mixing it up more and delivering a steady diet of multiple attackers. Mandy needs a bit more confidence and to swing away though I am surprised by her ability to keep the ball in play and make some pretty quick adjustments. Like to see her with a shorter attack arm on occassions. Faith is unbelieveable at the net defensively and swinging hard. Lexie coming oalong nicely while the back row play as you observed needs to tighten up. I like these girls as they continue to play together going into the MAC season but alos agree with your points regarding distribution.
