MatchPointOhio had to take down the photos of the new players: turns out the NCAA doesn't want the teams to release or allow any photos of their summer camps.

We'll be shooting at the Green and White Scrimmage on the 22nd, and will put up some photos of the new players then.

The NCAA is ridiculous at times, this being one of them.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Actually, not that unreasonable if you understand NCAA rules.

Prospective Student-Athletes who have not matriculated (started classes, or attended pre-season practices, for fall sports) at their school are technically still "Prospects," irrespective of whether they have signed a National Letter of Intent.   The NCAA has very clear rules about institutional publicity surrounding propective student-athletes.  Basically, all the school can do is announce that they have signed, at which time the coach can make comments.  It is likely that the recruits just came into town for the camps.

We may not like it (I'm as excited to see the new players as anyone), but the rule is there for a (good) reason.

If I have misspoken, I trust (and hope) a member of the Compliance staff will correct me.  It is very easy to inadvertently go awry of NCAA rules, and I know none of us wants Ohio in any predicaments.

This event that the pictures were taken at was not a pre-season practice?

Nope.   What they're doing right now is pre-season practice (continuous activities leading directly into the start of the season).  Summer activities are severely limited and cannot include coaches/coaching.  It is common for players on teams everywhere to get together during the summer to play, but those sessions are not official "practices."
