Wright State went 6-0 against the MAC with 3 wins each against Toledo and Miami. They also have some nice non-conference wins.

They have one major home run hitter, Ryan Fucci, who hit is 14th yesterday, and five guys hitting better than .300. Their pitcher today, Jesse Scholtens, is now their ERA leader among starters (after yesterday's starter's ERA inflated) at 3.16. Hopefully Ohio can do the same to Scholtens. It's a winnable game but I've got to think the Raiders are the favorite. It'll take a really good effort from Rudnicki. The offense wasn't bad yesterday (7 hits and 3 walks against a pitcher with an ERA in the 1s) so I hope Ohio keeps hitting.

In order to advance in the tournament, Ohio will have to win 4 games, so maybe they thought Sitz was a better match-up for the possible next game. It didn't work out but these teams are all way better than MAC competition. These are all very good hitting teams, and starting pitching really was a struggle for the a Bobcats at times this year.

Did you really just ask that? You pick up where you left off.

Are you really awed by the question? As I hope you know, in baseball a game that gets rained out before reaching regulation is started over from the beginning. A suspended game (time issue, lighting, etc.) is picked up from the beginning. I never played in a game that was rained out before regulation where we "picked it up where we left off." Perhaps college is different that high school, american legion and MLB. So while folks are using the word "postponed" it is really suspended. Sucks for Ohio.

At first, it was BAers not knowing football. Now, it's BAer cc-cat not knowing baseball. Don't know what I'd do without certain BAers telling the rest of us how little we actually know about all things sports. Just hoping my BBIQ is high enough.

Not real sure where you are from but Ohio High School never starts a game over that was not completed, that game if it's to be played is a suspended game. And MLB has went that route in the post season as well as College.

Simply the term used "suspended" means to be picked up where it left off. A game not tied is a suspended game and picked up where it left off. Been this way for some time.

Pennsylvania - must have changed the rule since my time.

Guess I should have assumed both teams had agreed to the halted game rule thus over-riding NCAA Rule 5-11

No Game
SECTION 11. “No game” shall be declared by the umpire if play is terminated before five innings have been completed by each team.
Exception 1
—If the team last at bat is at bat in the last half of the fifth inning and equals, before the completion of that inning, the score of the side first at bat, the umpire shall declare the contest legally tied. If the team last at bat shall have made more runs at the end of its fourth inning, or before the completion of its fifth inning, than the team first at bat has made in five completed innings, the umpire shall award the game to the team second at bat; and it shall count as a legal game.
Exception 2
—Teams previously have agreed to play by the halted-game rule (see 5-9).

And no, MLB does not pick up a rained out game from the third inning. It is a washout. Now if it is after the 5th and tied, yes. But that is not the situation we are discussing. As agreed, the game is actually suspended - using proper baseball terminology.

It was a valid question. As noted, MLB games stopped before the midway point do not count in any way. My experience with high school baseball has been that they always resume from the spot they left off no matter how little is played. I had one that got just into the second inning, but it would have sucked to start over for the team that was already up 9-1. But had that been a non-conference game, they might not have finished and it would have counted for nothing.

As for the NCAA Tournament, it was a tough draw for Ohio. All really good hitting teams, and Ohio's starting pitching hot streak ran out. Even Cozart wasn't invincible. The other issue was stranding runners. Ohio got guys on by hit 9 times, walk once, hit by pitch once and twice by error and got just three runs today. Even against Illinois, there was seven hits, a walk and a hit by pitch and just three runs.

Still, altogether a great season. Losing a few key seniors but lots of potential for next year.

Upsan thanks for the insight. As the team looks to build on a great year, could you (and others) provide a touch more thought re:

These are two or three guys that are already leaders but should step up even more and really carry the team:

These are two or guys that contributed this year, but should continue to improve and be leaders next year:

These are two or three guys you think will get some playing time and emerge as solid contributors:

Thanks.

I'm sure there are others you know a lot more than I do. I admit to know paying much attention to the team before this year, and even then, I wasn't able to watch many games and mostly just followed through box scores and things like that.

The top losses will be 1B Jake Madsen and RP Logan Cozart. Ohio also will lose from its lineup RF Tyler Wells and SS Garrett Black from its lineup, Spencer Sapp from its bullpen (lefty specialist) and Evan Geist, who kind of settled in as a midweek starter.

Starting pitching was a weakness but all three league starters return. All of them seemed to get better as the season progressed (aside from the NCAA games). There will be big holes in the bullpen. Tom Colletti will be the top returning reliever. Corey Wells and Christian Botter also were pretty good in far less innings. Jake Roehn was a pitcher who saw a lot of innings as a freshman but was hurt this year, I believe.

In the lineup, it's amazing to think of the player Longo can become. He was just a sophomore this year. I think John Adryan, who hit home runs in the MAC tournament and against Illinois, probably will be counted on to move up in the order from #7 to the heart of the order somewhere. I have no idea who will fill in the vacated spots in the lineup. There were no guys on the bench who got too many opportunities and probably for good reason because none of them did anything impressive when they did.

I have no idea if there are any recruits coming in who can help out, but DeJesus was a huge signee from this past year out of junior college that made a big improvement in the team. It'd be nice to have a guy or two like that.

MLb changed their rule for playoff in about 2008, 2011 was the first ever suspended play-off game, Yankees and the Tigers. All NCAA Tournament games are also suspended games. As for High School, NFHS Rules clearly state all games not regulation are suspended if completed. States can adopt or adapt to that, however 42 states coply with NFHS rules on this issue.

Wright St. beats Notre Dame and will need to beat Illinois twice to advance to Super Regional.

After scoring 13 runs in its opener, Notre Dame was shut out twice today, losing 3-0 to Illinois and then 4-0 to Wright State.

I'm cautiously optimistic for next year. The returning SPs Miller/Rudnicki/Sitz have a wide range of possibilities in my eyes, and how well they do will play a huge role in the success of the Bobcats. Losing Madsen & Cozart stings. I'm excited to see how Longo progresses, but worry if he progresses much more, we won't have him for a senior season.

Getting a gauge on the quality of incoming recruits is next to impossible. Even if you can find the names, you normally can't get much information. There are a few websites out there that cover HS baseball prospects that cost money, I bet those would give more info but I've never ponied up for them.

I did catch this article about an incoming freshman though - http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/elgin-courier-news/...

Andrew, you are right on when you talk about recruiting, and it's importance to build on this years success. This staff has got to get out and beat the bushes and find the right kids that can keep us competitive. Finding kids who can play at this level and then having the connections to get them headed in this direction is the name of the game. When you have the animals you have a chance to have a good zoo ! (I don't mean that in a bad way to refer to the kids as animals....just using an old saying!) This is a critical recruiting class for us as we lose some solid players !
