Ohio is recruiting  2015 point guard prospect James Bolden from Covington (KY) Holmes High School. The 6-2, 170-pounder is also receiving interest from Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky and Xavier.

Holmes wins their Regional title in Kentucky. Bolden named 9th Region MVP. Bluegrass Basketball tweets that Xavier, Purdue, and Cincinnati are all interested in him.

Chris Mack was all over Holmes' tournament run. Must have liked what he saw.

He wasn't the only one, rumor has it Calipari went into the locker room to talk with Bolden after they lost. This kids is going to be getting a lot of offers.

Mack is an intense guy. When he was after Jeff Teague I can not remember many of our games he was not front and center in an obvious nad highly visible place. Sean made a few games but Mack as a lead recruiter is way intense.

If he is putting on the full court press for this kid they will see him everywhere.

They need a guy like Bolden too. By then, Davis will be gone and he and Christon would make a good tandem.

Even if Xavier gets Bolden, I doubt he plays with Christon. Christon has one, maybe two years (minus injury) before going to the NBA.

Looks like we officially offered Bolden today.

Straight from the coaches mouth: @coachbooher: Congrats to my sophomore point guard for picking up his second division 1 scholarship offer from Ohio U. today. Xavier was his first

There is no reason we cannot go head to head with Xavier on any given recruit.

Get the 2-for-1 ticket deal.

If nothing else, this should alleviate some fears about whether we're going for the big recruits.

Your post seems to suggest guys want to play away games on the big stage. Now that is just crazy talk.

Conference affiliation aside, I'd much rather play for a program like Ohio University where the administration supports the players unlike Xavier where they falsely accuse student-athletes of crimes and kick them out of the university before proper litigation can even take place.

JSF, I've said before I don't care who or how many guys we OFFER.  I would just like to see us SIGN one big time player each and every year.  That's what a program like ours needs to go to the "next level".

Recent recruiting success, has me more optimistic that we could land a player like Mr. Bolden. He has the talent to make an impact as a freshman and would look great along with the other players we have down the pipeline.

A high-talent PG is a must in the next two years.

I'd love to have Bolden too, but just from watching some of his highlights and game tape, I'm guessing he winds up somewhere like Louisville.  Once this kid physically matures, he's going to be a freaking stud.  Keep in mind while watching this video that he's only a sophomore and is already (listed) 6'2", 170 lbs.  Then, think about what 15 lbs of muscle and two more years in high school will do to his game.

That spin move and that cross-over .   Bolden has the looks of a special, special player.  He looks like a bigger version of DJ Cooper with more explosiveness and a better stroke.  Can stop on a dime, has incredible handles, knows how to finish, and puts the ball on the money to his teammates.

I'd love to see this kid in Green & White, but I have a feeling that pretty much every top 25 school will be offering by this time next year.  He'll probably be at least a 4* prospect after his jr year.

I fully believe we can now compete with Top 25 schools on any given day. We won't sign all of these guys, but I don't think Tariq Owens is a 1-hit-wonder for Jim Christian.

Butler has offered now as well.

In addition to being at the same high school as Rico, Covington is also the town our freshman Antonio Campbell is from. He went to a private school there.

Rivals now shows offers from Butler, Ohio, Purdue, WVU and X.

Obviously will be tough to sign this kid with those schools all after him. One big plus... Depending on who our last recruit is in the current (2014) class James "Beetle" Bolden could come in as a freshman with the PG spot pretty much locked up from Day 1.

Also, he visited X earlier this month.

Where we stack up against the others, using ESPN' recruiting:

WVU - just signed a 4-star PG for 2014, but didn't sign one for 2013. They'll likely need someone to pass the torch to after Juwan Staten leaves. Bolden would be the guy to do that, although I'm not sure how much we would like playing over there.

Butler -  No PG signees in 2013 and none for 2014 has of yet. They've got three guards on the roster who are JRs, although I'm not sure who plays point and how good they are at it. This is where I can see Bolden most likely landing if he doesn't come to Ohio.

Xavier - Depending on how long Semaj Christon decides to stick around, it could be too crowded over at X for him. When Bolden enrolls, Christon will be a SR and they just inked both a 2013 and 2014 PG, both of which were ESPN 100 recruits. I can't imagine a third joining, but you never know.

Purdue - 2013 and 2014 classes didn't include any PGs. They need Bolden just to add someone who's not from Indiana on the team. Have you looked at that roster? According to what they have on ESPN, they've got 11 guys from Indiana.

Cincinnati - have yet to offer, but it is close to home.

UK - if they offer, which they totally could, and if he's good enough, they'll find room for him. Calipari always does.
