Why do you think we need a JUCO guy?

I hope coach Phillips finds a JC player who is at least 6-9, long and athletic; a rim-protector, who can rebound and is ready to play significant minutes. I realize that's asking a lot, but that guy is out there somewhere and PT is available. He can share the center position with Doug Taylor and, hopefully, keep the forwards from having to defend true centers.

Jason Carter and maybe A.J. Gareri could play there, but they're nowhere near as strong and physical as they're going to be in a couple of years. So I'd rather have a true post guy who can play there with Doug for the next two seasons and recruit a high school center for the 2018 class. Do we need this guy to compete in the MAC next season? Maybe not. But I believe we need a post player with those skills if we get to The Big Dance in Jaaron Simmons' final season (assuming he returns) and want to boogie for more than one song.

+1 I would like a big and a wing player, a sixth man type or starter. There are a lot of graduate wing players available.

I think we need to look for a 7 footer who can handle the ball, shoot 3's, and is a great rim protector.

Oh hey I found one. Luckily he plays for a crappy program, maybe he'd be interested in transferring.

yeah we could use another guy that just stands at the launching pad and waits to shoot three's. Wait a minute, he is a pro, so he has no eligibility, this was meant to be a joke. Ha, ha, ha, very funny. The recruits certainly can't say we don't have any personality. We have got Seinfeld on our board

I am really excited to see what Saul will do with 2 extra scholarships. I feel like we can be very good this year with the team we have and allow the two scholarships to be used on transfers who have to sit out. If you don't count Kenny and Jaaron as transfers, his freshmen have been pretty great outside of Ellis so far.
Dartis: Starts year 1
Block: sixth man Frosh, starts year 2
Jason Carter: Starts year 1
Gollon: played some minutes freshman year
Doug: seventh man freshman, key player off bench soph.

His recruiting has not been great, Dartis and Carter are the only players that might start on two other MAC teams. We do have two open schollies and I am optimistic about our future, lets see what he does with them and most of all let's see how we develops Dartis, Block, Taylor, Carter and Dozier. Will they have autonomy or will they be challenged to get better. Being a players coach does not mean that you don't challenge your players, I think that we have some pieces and glue, lets see if we can add to that.

This is Marin Bota, right? Just changed his name? Surely the coaching staff will find a guy like this in the Spring Signing period, with three years of eligibility, who can play right away and can start. Piece of cake, right? ;)

And you're leaving out his first recruit, Mike Laster. Watching him grow and develop has been a treat.

Name 2, got it. Block is a decent basketball player, he is a Chris Jent type, but not as good. His opponent often outscores him, but he is a glue player he does add a lot of intangible value. He can be developed into a good basketball player. Laster was almost relegated to the bench, but injuries allowed him to play. Had Gollon not been injured, Laster would be rotting on the bench because he penetrates too much and sometimes he dunks. Hopefully, he improves his play in space and improves his handle and jump shot, he could be a great 6th man. He probably should start, but that won't happen. The starters are already set in stone. Kevin Durant couldn't start at the three at ohio at this point.
Gavin Block
#22 GSophomoreOhio Bobcats

Weight209 lbs
2016-17 Season
PPG RPG APG
7.6 4.3 2.1
42% field goal percentage, 34 from three, 65 from the foul line, while you may be in love other programs would try to get better at this position.

Does every basketball player have to be LeBron James...or in Ohio's case DJ Cooper or Gary Trent for you to be satisfied? Not every player on every roster turns out to be All-MAC performers. You need guys like Block who can defend and rebound and take charges and pass the ball, but yeah then knock down the occasional shot.

And your analysis of Laster is way off. Yeah he got more minutes because Tony got hurt, but he has improved his play from day one when he stepped on campus. His first year, and almost more than half of the second year, he was strictly a wing defender, rebounder and a guy who could get to the bucket. How many times did he knock down big shots from 3 this year? Quite a bit. He's improved that part of his game immensely.

And to say Gollon would get more minutes than Mike is way, way overstated. In the limited minutes we saw Gollon play as a freshman, he was no where near ready to provide significant output at this level. He's got more growing to do than almost anyone on the roster.

I think a JUCO or grad transfer MIGHT be a good route to go with one of the extra scholarships, but he better be a guy who can fit into this roster like a chess piece or else it's not going to work. And this person isn't going to be an All-MAC performer from day one nor should we expect him to be.

Get somebody that can shoot 47% from the field and 39% from three and 75 from the line. These are the NCAA AVERAGES not All-MAC performers, Laster shot 53% way above average for a wing. You can demonize me at the car wash, but numbers don't lie. I like Block, he needs to improve, he needs to be challenged, he is below the NCAA averages.

Competition is always a good thing. It forces us to do our best. A monopoly renders people complacent and satisfied with mediocrity.

We just played a season where we got 14 games played by players that Saul did not bring in. We finished as the #2 seed and won 20 games. And yet somehow none of our players could play for all those teams that finished behind us. That is beyond stupid.

Numbers don't lie, people with wild imaginations do. Jason Carter and Dartis could start on multiple teams of the players listed above. Block would be coming off the bench, we are willing to ingnore the fact that he shoots 42% from the field, 34 from three and 65 from the line, even though we have bigs like Carter and Tone that draw double teams. I know you guys are in love and it is probably what is causing the disconnect. The good news is that if Block improves to the NCAA AVERAGE, he will average 13.5 points a game and will limit double teams options for opponents. If he doesn't we will have unhappy players on the bench that feel like they are being slighted. Were talking about AVERAGE man, Average. How silly is that, we are talking about average. Heck, lets not argue. Can I sell you guys some stuff. I have a house in Athens, it about 1500 square feet, Saul said that the house was very nice, it is on a dead end street. Can I get $750,000, it comes with a picture of the Lava Girls, I will throw in a Saul poster as well. Let's do some business.

I just keep hoping you'll realize that your consistent rambling on about being "complacent and satisfied with mediocrity" is old, obnoxious, and annoying to the majority of the readers of this board. As such, I keep posting that snippet to let you know, that "there's more to life than this" when you keep trying to lecture us about that. If you doubt me, rest assured that I've polled several people on here directly to confirm my statement.

Lastly, and kindly, I'm not a ma'am, I'm a sir. Just to clear up the confusion for you.

As for your youtube videos, I have no idea what that's supposed to be, and I don't care.

Phillips recruited Simmons and Kaminski too, right?

Thanks for the youtubes, they help me focus on the Bible verses you've previously quoted and your "servant leadership".

We just played a season where we got 14 games played by players that Saul did not bring in. We finished as the #2 seed and won 20 games. And yet somehow none of our players could play for all those teams that finished behind us. That is beyond stupid.

Agreed. I'm not sure where the standard is that is being compared to, but the current roster is already very good. I'd agree with anyone who thinks that how they use the two available scholarships remaining will be important. But this roster, as-is without added players for those last two schollies, is going to be in contention in the conference.

Numbers don't lie, people with wild imaginations do. Jason Carter and Dartis could start on multiple teams of the players listed above. Block would be coming off the bench

This is wrong.

Carter and Dartis would start on every team in the MAC next year.

Laster and Block would start on most of the teams in the MAC next year. Outside of Buffalo, EMU, Ball State, and Akron they probably start for every other team. Kent State won the MAC tournament and they would both have been an upgrade at wing last year for Kent.

Also Doug Taylor would start next year for half or more of the league as well. Centers in the MAC are going to be very young and unpolished next year. Outside of James Thompson, Trey Moses, and Nick Perkins I am struggling to find any big men who would be an upgrade from Doug Taylor.

Outside of Buffalo we easily have the most talented roster in the MAC next year and that is with two scholarships yet to be filled.

Phillips recruited Simmons and Kaminski too, right?

Thanks for the youtubes, they help me focus on the Bible verses you've previously quoted and your "servant leadership".

Mr. McKinney, I should turn the other cheek, it is hard when you get continually attacked. Sorry for being a poor example at times.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

So using your logic then all 5 of the Bobcat starters next year would start on most MAC teams, Simmons, Carter and Dartis would start on all teams and the other other 2 on most teams so I would assume we will be 18-0 unless our coach sucks.
