I'm sure we'll have more than one scholarship to work with when it's all said and done, but right now, only Wilson and Baker must leave after the season. With one opening already accounted for, I think a post player is next priority, preferably a freshman.

Jaylen looks like a bruiser. Also carries offers from Ole Miss and FGCU.

Will be taking an official visit to Ohio later this month.

At the moment, we have one scholarship to use. Of course, the likelihood is there will be more coming available after the season, but assuming only one, I think it should be used on a front court player of any playing style, and this guy would really fit the bill.

Later this month, as in Aug. 30/31? Has he visited or is he coming into Athens sometime in September?

This seems like it would be a terrific get to me. Athletic and long.

Hope we can lock him down in a few weeks during his visit to Athens.

If he is burning one of his five Official visits on us one would think we're in a prime spot to land him. Or it could mean he's decided on someone else and is just taking vacation tours.

Question from the mildy uninformed: when a recruit takes a visit, who pays for the trip?

Depends, if the visit is "unofficial" the athlete and their family must foot the bill. If the visit is "official", then the Athletic Department/University picks up the tab. Each sport has a specific budget for recruiting, which will determine, how many prospects they bring in a year, and the treatment that each prospect receives. The typical visit will be arrival (plane, with transportation to airport; arrival via car (can be reimbursed for gas); campus tour, facility tour, ball game, lunch with coaches and players, a nice dinner, academic advising, meeting with faculty in area of interest. Parents hosted by coaches, while the prospect is doing a tour of the Athens/campus nightlife being hosted by a current player (current player is given cash for hosting and making sure the appropriate tour necessities are taken care of). Breakfast next day, more touring and meeting, etc.

Boals was in Florida for a home visit a few weeks ago and now Lamar this week. Hope Jaylen has a great visit this weekend and we can get a verbal. So much to like here with his size and length. Would be a great addition for next year.

Can prospects take unofficial visits during "dead" or "quiet" periods? So often when I hear of prospects taking unofficial visits, they're meeting the coaches, taking pictures in the facility, etc. I always wondered if there was any overlap there or if coaches could only meet if the prospect is on campus

There are differences between the "Dead Period" and a "Quiet Period". A "Dead Period" in NCAA DI, is NO in person recruiting contacts or evaluations in or off campus. Coaches are allowed to have electronic communications during the "Dead Period". A "Quiet Period", Recurits can visit with college coaches but only at that schools college campus. During September, October or Novemeber, coaches are allowed one in-person off-campus (at the high school or in the home). Schools are allowed ONLY 42 days of evaluation time during a quiet period.

So yes, you can see those photos and such turn up during the quiet period.

I saw Carey hanging out with Miles, AJ Clayton, AJ Brown and Elmore. Said hi to them! They sat to the right of the main student section.

Southern Miss coaches visited Jaylen today. Of all the targets out there right now, this is the one that I really hope comes to Athens. A big with athleticism off the charts.

AJ Brown reposted a video of Jaylen dominating a in a possible preseason game. These two might have made a friendship on Jaylens visits.

Any news on Jaylen? Not seeing much on the interwebs. We're gonna need him when Dwight is gone... (Actually, we'll probably need TWO new bigs to fill Dwight's shoes!)

Go Bobcats!
