No, but close. 1960 College Division National Champions still number 1 in my book.

On paper, not even a top five roster of the past 20 years. But in terms of execution and consistency, it's a different story.

I will call them the team that improved the most from the start of the season until the end, and it's not even close.

million percent.

Top to bottom. Bottom to top. Dogs.

Navarro? Jesus. I hope I get to see him out soon. You wanna talk about a kid who could’ve been left for dead after that Mercer game… absolutely changed the whole narrative. His entire career. One of the most gutsy kids we’ve had at the position. Just an unbelievable season, when a lot of people here were begging for Winters. He figured it out. They let him figure it out. I credit Brian so much for not making him be Rourke, but letting him be Parker.

I hope he’s back. Truly a joy to watch him read a defense.

I mean, go down the list. Owen. Tyus. Leake. Heidecker. Kids who weren’t here bought in immediately and became leaders.

The 4th and 5th years… Titsworth, Parodie, Dennison, Weaver… 3rd years Brawley, Adonis… amazing group of guys and players. In this era we may not see many like them again.

Wish I could have seen them play. Too bad they didn't get to play in a post season bowl.

What kind of crowds were at Peden in those days?

Jeff: The stadium was smaller back them, before they added the end zone seats and lowered the field. I think the official capacity was around 12,000, but they crammed more fans into the stadium for big games with temporary bleachers behind the end zone on both sides of the field. The largest crowd that year was more than 15,000 against Miami. I believe they also sold SRO tickets for that game. One big difference was the fans seemed more into the games then, and you did not have the large student exodus after halftime. This was before the 110 was a gleam in the eye of Vern Alden, as John Calhoun Baker was still president. It was a smaller stadium, but it was often packed and the atmosphere was generally more electric. I looked it up, and I see that the final game of the season against SIU has a listed attendance of 11,000, but I remember people literally hanging off the side of the much smaller press box and a totally packed stadium, perhaps they did not have the temporary bleachers up for that game, or the reported attendance is wrong. I hope that this answers your question sufficiently.

Well said.

Coaching had something to do with it.

We know what Coach Smith did with the offense. Not a bunch of BA complajints about the offense.

And the defense starting with Nowinsky and continuing with Hauser is just nasty. Jax had what zero yards rushing in the first half. Other teams met the same fate.

I like the Bryant/Snyder team cause I lived it. But this team is my favorite because of predictions of maybe not even a bowl game.

Their improvement and their fight against adversity was amazing.

Obviously, there are a few teams in history of of football with a better resume. 1960, 1968, 1929, 1935 and possibly some other teams from the 30's. This is the best resume since 1968. As far as how dominant it is with respect to the rest of college football. That's a hard question. The game changes. Plus, you could consider things like if you take the 2012 team early in the season against this team early in the season the 2012 team is a huge favorite. If you pitted it against recent teams at the end of the year we were playing great football in 2017 and 2018 and would have definitely been favored to beat every team in the MAC at the end of the year those seasons and possibly this one. Those teams lost one they couldn't even while paying dominant football late in the year. In terms of talent I suspect there are about 7 teams since 2009 or 2010 that had more. But I'm with El Gato Roberto for just that reason. This team faced all sorts of challenges including their coach getting off the bus and they hung together and got in done. There are all sorts of ways to look at the question of where they rank but they'll still be my favorite.

Back then, if you wanted to see a game, you had to go to the game. On a Saturday afternoon, it was the thing to do. 64 years later, things are quite different.

IMO 2012 was the best team, peak Tettleton was just different.

2024 vs Miami and Jax, other than the punter, the players made plays--some really big plays.

The OT loss in Detroit to Northern Illinois, the players did not make plays in the second half. A dropped pick six opportunity, a receiver open and overthrown, a similar shanked punt and a defense who couldn't turn them over giving the offense great field position. In 2024 edition, the PLAYERS made plays. No muffed punts, no stupid roughing/targeting penalties giving the opponent momentum. Few motion penalties. These guys were focused!
