At the house that William Tecumseh Sherman built, it appears that Brian Kelly, the head football coach, needs to take his dog to the vet, or he'll soon be joining the ranks of the rich unemployed.

[For those that don't know SEO hero of the late rebellion, Wm Tecumseh Sherman, was the first president of the institution that is now LSU. They recently moved his picture from the basement of the administration building to a more prominent location.]

My wife (LSU alum x2) and I were at the Vandy game last Saturday sitting with a bunch of other Tiger fans. Tiger Nation took over about half of Vandy's stadium. The further that game went, the uglier the crowd became towards Kelly. Rumor has it that they will first finish paying off Coach O and then can Kelly. However, with Bama, A&M and Oklahoma still left to play, things could progress rather rapidly if those games all go south. Kelly's seat is white hot right now.

VANDY IS A WAGON.

I love seeing SEC teams get knocked off one by one. They can take the losses to Bama, LSU and the perennial powers, but take a loss to Vandy and fans start getting pissed.

This does not surprise me one bit. In addition to being an overhyped coach, he's been an SOB at all his former stops -- CMU, Cincinnati, and UND.

Not only with the fanbase OCF, he is also notorious for throwing his team, staff, the water boy or anyone else under the bus, but it is never his fault. He comes across as being very aloof and cold, and that will not help him at all going forward in Baton Rouge.

What's interesting about this story is that our former AD Julie Cromer is now part of the staff at LSU, assisting their AD.

Terrible fit from the beginning and LSU fans were spoiled because their last three coaches all won national titles by their 4th year. Kelly isn't on track to do that, but he's still an excellent coach (34-13 record there).

I actually had this thought last night that I wonder if state schools and football powers are going to end up regretting opening the Pandora's box of NIL and revenue sharing because now the private schools like Vandy can dig into their deep pockets with less reluctance than they probably would have before.

Northwestern's new stadium looks incredible. Facilities are probably lower on the priority list than they have been, but hell I'd wanna play there.

Interesting that you mention stadiums GoCats 105. Although the endzone projects Vandy recently completed are nice, since they are geared towards the Big Donors and invole mainly private seating/boxes they really do nothing for the general admission/casual fan types nor the students either. The rest of the stadium is on par with or below the east side (band side) of Peden Stadium. Underneath the stadium bleachers on either side it is crowded and narrow. I know LSU fans who were at the stadium 1/2 hour before kickoff and in line to go in, and did not get to their seats until the end of the 1st quarter. The ramps going into the bleachers were very narrow and not well light. The stairs going up the bleachers were narrow and could not handle the crowd flow at all. If you were in the upper part of the bleachers you did not go down for concessions underneath because you would spend at least 1 1/2 quarters trying to accomplish that feat. And finally, the restrooms underneath the bleachers were below the standard of those on either the east or west side of Peden. No offense to Vandy, but that stadium is a dump and I will not go into parking availability other than to say think Uber, limo or taxi.

Now that's a LOW standard!

Vanderbilt's football stadium was built in 1922.

Their basketball arena is ancient too. It finally just got air conditioning.

The Titans who suck out loud are getting a 2.7 billion dollar dome.

Tip: if you stay at the Marriott behind the end zone, you won't need uber or lyft

Years ago when I taught at Murray State we made a litte trip to Nashville for a weekend. It wasn't football season, but we had a room with a nice view of the football field. I had forgotten what hotel we stayed at, but the one you reference must have been it!

OCF, My wife and I had a similar experience when we went to our game with Virginia held there a few years ago. Probably really didn’t need our tickets. :)

CatsUp, your timing was better than mine. Should have planned my trip for football season!

I recall a lot of ND fans thanking LSU for taking Kelly off their hands and LSU fans claiming that it was all sour grapes.

I believe this makes TEN FBS coaches fired midseason before November. This is just crazy to me.

For context, at the same time last year there were only five, two of them started the year with interims and none of them were from the power conferences. This year seems like all power conferences.

Everybody wants to win now and are throwing big money to get it done. The reality is that not everybody can win now. My old boss said it and it seems appropriate that a lot of people are using their “money instead of their brains”. I don’t think all this throwing money will end anytime soon for some fan bases, but some are going to cry “uncle” after a few more cycles with poor results, maybe not.

The most important stat in sports to keep in mind that no one can seem to remember these days - 50% of all games are losses. This fact will never change.

And that AD is partly responsible for , I think, the 2 largest buyouts in football history-Fisher at A&M and Kelly at LSU-$130,000,000 total. Is he on the hotseat at LSU? He should be.

The AD didn’t write those contracts or approve those. They are becoming more like HS AD’s, they line things up, but others make the decisions.
