Miami now has an $8MM-10MM NIL budget for football? Say what?

Does not surprise me at all.  And, I've heard they are upping their game in a similar manner for basketball.

And, I find this unacceptable:

"Our goal is to be the best Group of Six program in the country across all of our sports," Sayler said. "That's what we want to be. And just, you know, keep an eye towards the future and whatever happens next in this crazy world of college athletics."

Sayler and Martin see opportunity in the future.

The ACC reaches an inflection point during the 2030-31 fiscal year when the conference exit fee drops to $75 million, opening a window for unhappy tenants like Florida State and Clemson to explore other options. Given that TV deals for the Big Ten and Big 12 are both up in 2030, it's a time industry sources expect to be ripe for another round of realignment.

We can not allow Miami to get ahead of us like this.

Good for them capitalizing on all the good things happening with their two main sources of revenue. This can only make the league better as a whole.

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr they're making themselves look good for a possible move to another conference, in which case I can't blame them for that either. Ohio needs to be doing the same.

Miami's TOTAL football budget is just north of 10 million. This is a case of a journalist mistakenly believing the cited budget is actually an NIL specific budget. I'd be surprised if they have more than $1.5M for portal acquisitions.

Two bowl wins in the last decade and they're ready for prime time.

There was an article stating a humongous inflation of TV exposure as revenue.

They are positioning for an ACC bid in 2030. The problem is that when FSU and Clemson can leave the conference won't be much better than the MAC with more travel minus Sac St.

Good for Miami. Happy for them.

All it takes is a handful of just crazy enough alums to set a program up to be top 25 forever. I'm surprised its football instead of basketball since basketball rosters are so much smaller. (Then again maybe posters here are wrong and Miami hoops has more NIL $.)

I don't think OU has a combination of wealthy + sports crazed alums to ever consider this.

Time to lower your OU sports expectations fellow bobcattackers...

After reading this, I do not see any confusion in where the money comes from. What a painful read for a Bobcat.

Why do I get the impression our administration has no plan. Fiami has smarter people once again. We can't just sit by and watch the paint dry (unless we use it to touch up the Convo and the outfield wall at Wren).

We don't have a few rich aluni suddenly deciding to give millions. I don't think that exactly equates to "No Plan" from the administration. You can complain, which probably won't accomplish much, or write a check or live with it

You don't do this and stay in the MAC; exit as soon as C-USA/Belt/AAC ask. Now, are the spending more in hockey where they actually can compete with the big boys?

And let's not kid ourselves. Student athletic fees will rise, state aid will increase to athletics. Boosters are great but you need more & more every year. Will the students care less about tOSU and fill up the stands? Me thinks no.

It's one thing to be UCF, UC, BYU, USF (eventally) to move up to the P6. But Oxford, Ohio ... with tOSU and previously mentioned UC right next door? I don't see it.

Miami, Toledo, and OU should be planning to leave the MAC. That trio alone would be really good for a PAC12 East pod. Just saying.

That's not the way this usually happens. With rare exception, it takes years of what development folks call "cultivation" to bring a big pocket donor to the point that he or she decides to make that "transformative" gift to an area of special interest whether that be an academic area or athletics or a split between both. It appears that Miami has been doing a better job of cultivating than we have in the last few decades. To channel my former student, Chuck Landon, that's UNACCEPTABLE!

If we could get our so called alumni who spend money on the Buckeyes in various forms to do it for THEIR school instead, it would be a good start.

Why would the ACC care about a school in the cornfields of (almost) Indiana? They bring no media value. (Except for a single fluke isolated basketball season) If the ACC didn't want WVU which is in the backyard of sports media stronghold Pittsburgh, there would be no interest in fiami. You remember the Big Ten adding Rutgers? Because New Jersey is a population center, thus a media center. Not because anybody in Columbus or Ann Arbor get excited about a game against Rutgers.

You apparently have never been to State College, PA, or Blacksburg, VA, to name just a few Big Time programs in out-of-the-way locations.

Heard a MAC coach speak very recently. For this portal cycle, Martin has $8M to spend. WMU and Toledo are at $3M. Ohio is next tier knocking on the door of $1M. In all, have heard that Miami has raised $20M total for NIL with one donor funding a good chunk of it.

Can we do better than $1M?

Also, no surprise that Martin doesn't follow the likes of Candle to other places. He rules Miami with an iron fist.

I've always thought that Martin was not a very good game-day coach. However, $8-10 million in payments to players will cover a host of coaching sins.

That is obviously true to some extent. But if there exists an alum that is suddenly willing to make $20M donation in the first place that is earmarked for athletics is a completely different thing. This is not something to place most of the blame internally.
