It's where we have been since Chip Hilton went off to State and had to get money for an abortion for his cheerleader girlfriend. Money has always been part of the equation.

Seriously.

In some of these cases, we're talking about offers of $2m. To choose one elite college football program over another.

Because none of us would ever change jobs for more money. Or choose the employer that offered the most.

It depends on how much BS and criticism you are willing to put up with by the coach and administration. Death threats by fans worth the extra bucks? What price do you put on your mental health?

Generally speaking, I think that elite athletes are extremely competitive and want to compete at the highest levels. That comes with stress and fan attention.

So while some of them may choose to play at a lower level and avoid that, I suspect that's a pretty small minority.

Whether they're going to adequately invest, I don't know. But hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars at 18-20 can be life-changing money. Dealing with headaches while also building a future that is comfortable seems like a pretty safe tradeoff. Just watching the Vince Young doc on Netflix has me wondering how much money he (or the USC dynasty) could've made during those runs.

We are where we are because of the coaching salaries. The president of Alabama makes 800k. Nick Saban�s last year he made 11.1M.

I don't argue that this is part of the problem, but this isn't the root cause of the issue. We are where we are because the NCAA blatantly ignored the oncoming and inevitable changing landscape of paying athletes what they rightfully deserved. They threw millions of dollars in legal fees at the court system to try and stop it also. This could have been rectified decades ago and the coaching salary portion of it would have never reached these levels.

Interesting it was reported at the start of the WMU-UM farce yesterday by the game announcers that many WMU players from last year had received higher offers from other programs but elected to stay. So top dollar doesn't always win, unless you need an extra second added the game!

The upper tier programs are making money, so coaches should get some. However, I know of no companies or organizations that would pay the head of sales or whatever 10 or more times the salary of the president or CEO. I don�t blame the players for wanting some. Most P5 qbs are getting 1-4M. That�s pretty crazy.

WMU got screwed because of money, IMO.
