UMass currently putting belt to ass against Rutgers up 21-7 in the 2nd quarter. 21 straight unanswered points and they just forced a 3 and out.

That catch in the end zone was amazing. Exactly where you want it as a WR. Over the shoulder or no one gets it. Hopefully they can keep it up and not get gassed by the 4th. Usually G6 teams get conservative when they get the lead. For UMASS, foot needs to be on the pedal.

UMass is certainly better than last year but Rutgers looks a lot worse. Wish we would have had a shot at this Rutgers team to open last season.

Rutger's board must be in total meltdown, but it will be in much bigger meltdown if they actually lose.

At this point they should just start hoping they can get it within 2 scores.

After the punt all the way to the 1, then INT. 99.7% per FPI.

They are a bigger underdog by we will be by close to a TD. Rutgers wasn't markedly worse then Nebraska last year but there was reason to believe that it would be a bigger gap between those teams this year. Now, I think Rutgers has to be one of the worst teams in the B1G in 2026. This isn't even close right now. UMass is much, much better with pretty good certainly. In a era where rosters overturn, their football resources are up near the top of the MAC. Going from the worst in the FBS to MAC contention is far from implausible.

UMass beating Rutgers is by far one of the most surprising starts to a regular season in recent history.

The more surprising part is Rutgers never really being in the game after the first drive. Absolute beat down after that.

Minutemen looking tough. Some of these preseason predictions were obviously completely off the mark.

Meanwhile Buffalo struggled mightily against FCS Albany last night. Losing well into the 4th quarter before pulling it out 21-17.

The fact they had to score with under two minutes to go just to make it look fairly respectable in bonkers.

I flipped it over when it was 30-7 and thought they made an error on the ticker.

Their little QB, who I discovered transferred in from Virginia Tech (never played), is fantastic. Kid is accurate and poised.

UMASS has been god awful, so while I hesitate to call them good... they look like they could be fun.

NIU also beat Notre Dame, and then lost to Buffalo the following week enroute to a 4-4 MAC record. So it could just easily be an opening week fluke where Rutgers was asleep at the wheel.

Regardless, more MACtion the better.

Hard to take much away from weeks 0-1, UMASS was rather pesky against us last year but we seemed to play to the level of OUr opponents. I was very surprised by Buffalo struggling but again, week 1 is fluky to a degree. MACtion is back, can't wait for tomorrow.

The Rutgers quarterback was ass. UMass didn't make him look bad; he did that all on his own.

I saw one estimate that UMass has a "payroll" of over $3 million for its football team this year. How does that compare with OHIO? One source said that UMass is leading the league in NIL spending on football by a wide margin, and summarized it this way: "UMass is using its budget to 'buy' its way into competitiveness as a new conference member, while the established MAC powers like Miami (OH) and WMU rely on a mix of established infrastructure and targeted NIL.

I watched it. UMASS physically beat their ass. I would like to think we have hope with the transfer portal. However, I can't confirm we have any level of NIL $$ to matter. As a point of reference, I count (12) DL Transfers on the UMASS Roster. That is just the DL!

Rutgers QB position looks grim. No field commander probably equals long season. With the money the Weak 10-12-14-16-18 gets, how can Rutgers not go buy a QB like UMASS? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Sideline Data ranks NIL spending for over 130 college football schools. Toledo spends more than 11 million on their roster. The Bobcats and Miami spend a little more than 10 million and Marshall spends slightly more than Ohio and Miami. Anyone know if those 2026 figures are accurate?

Rutgers is spending almost 28 million on their 2026 roster according to Sideline. Unfortunately for them that wasn’t enough to beat UMASS.

They probably thought they struck gold with Lonergan. Went to Alabama, got stuck behind Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson. He was the 36th ranked prospect in 2023. One of the top QB's in the entire class, just behind some dudes named Dante Moore and Arch Manning. AHEAD of Avery Johnson, Christopher Vizzina, Marcel Reed, LaNorris Sellers...

HS rankings are a crap shoot, but he *was a big name, among big names.

UMass was a pleasure to watch on Thursday. I am glad they are not our problem this year, they should be competitive in the MAC.

Disappointing EMU loss last night vs San Jose State.

Toledo gave Mich St a nice fight.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I know it isn’t the MAC, but our old pal Tim Albin is dangerously close to losing to FCS Citadel at home right now. Thy were 4-8 last season and lost to Wofford in a blowout last week.

Edit: they did lose 431-41 in 3OT.
