I just got some sticker shock.

ESPN+ has raised their price to watch our Bobcats to $9.99 per month.

This is a $2.00 increase over last year.

Now we all know that this type of service was not affected by Covid with all the related personnel issues. This is just an electronic fomat. PERIOD.

GREED

They gotta find some way to pay for that SEC rights deal they got. It's certainly not going to come from subscriber fees from cable or satellite because they're both bleeding customers right and left. We dropped our DirecTV subscription this month after 22 years. Can get pretty much the same service with a streaming service for $30 a month less. It's also a matter of Disney wanting people to buy their whole streaming bundle. They're offering Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu (without live TV) together for $13.99 a month.

The biggest crock is that you need BOTH an ESPN+ subscription AND a cable/satellite subscription to watch MOST games on the app. If it's on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU and you don't have cable, ESPN+ will block you out of it. I'm a hybrid antenna/app guy, and this is a pet peeve of mine.

As I recall it's the same way with CBSSN online. If you don't have it on your cable/satellite/streaming service package, you can't watch live programming online. The DOJ should be looking into these tying arrangements because they arguably limit output (product availability) and increase costs to consumers.
