OSU QB CJ Stroud has given all of his teammates $500 gift cards from Express so they can buy new suits and look good on game day. That is a very generous gesture by the young man.

I love it! Look Fly on game days.

This may not be the right place to discuss, but does the new reality of the NIL hurt Ohio versus the rest of the MAC? Do the teams in the larger cities like Buffalo and maybe Toledo have big advantages compared to more isolated, smaller town schools like Ohio? Just wondering what everybody thinks.

Yep, guaranteed it does. I stated this 5 years ago when people were cheering this movement on. I mean last year, Bobcat Attack was one of the larger NIL’s on campus.

Was there anybody cheering for the NIL because they thought it would help Ohio?

I'm in favor of it because I don't view things like this solely through a lens of whether they benefit OU.

This is obvious.

I’m reading and hearing that once the dust settles a little that it’s expected that the contributions given directly to the athletic departments will go down because a big part of the money usually given to them will now go instead to the athletes. That may be true, but it may not be a direct one for one reduction because I think we may be plowing up new ground ( commercial ventures a little more than before), but we shall see.

Based on the comments from the B1G Commissioner on Real Sports this month, it seems that he expects that eventually they will be paying players.

If that comes to pass , it will really "plow up new ground".

I sure hope so. Feel like it would be super weird to go through life thinking solely about how to maximize the competitiveness of Ohio University's football team. Even Tim Albin doesn't seem to care at all about that.

Is it a generous gesture by CJ Stroud? It seems much more likely Express proposed this idea to CJ Stroud as a marketing opportunity.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Yeah, I agree, Stroud should get no credit or positive publicity from this. He totally had nothing to do with it at any level. Good call! It's just Express giving 125 NIL's under the cloak of darkness.

I couldn’t care less about OSU, except I get a little thrill when they lose. Same with ND, Alabama, etc.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I was referring to coaches salaries leading us to the NIL situation.

Also, there are probably a dozen or more schools that rake in more money than they can possibly spend. All it means to them is that their bank accounts will have a little less excess.
