Watch the full press conference and tell me this guy had made the decision to leave. Something happened between the presser and the boarding of the busses - maybe he was underwhelmed by the offer he received. He's just not that good an actor.

I wish we had an enterprising journalist in town who could uncover how all this played out over the past several weeks.

I disagree. He looks like someone who has made a decision they’re unsure of, and is slowly coming to terms with it in real time.

Disagree. He was putting a bow on his time @ Ohio. Basically presenting us the MAC Title with one foot out the door.....to Charlotte....Jesus. How far we have fallen.

Fallen? This was our first conference championship in the modern era, and we play in a bad conference. Our field is named after a coach who never won a championship.

What's the height we've fallen from? Charlotte has a $39m athletic budget. Ours is $27m.

Money is all that matters in college athletics, and we have none of it. We don't have donors who have shown a willingness to step up, we don't have access to a fanbase/media market that generates money, and we don't have access to corporate sponsorships. And there's no real path to having any of those things.

Charlotte can at least paint the vision, and demonstrate commitment. They just invested $70m in stadium expansions, are in a major market, and can at least make the case they have a plan to change what they are.

What's the vision for football relevance at Ohio? Beg Ohio State for more money?

I agree with this, mostly, though I think it is also plausible that whatever happened, happened while he was on the bus, which caused him to get off the bus, and make a decision.

Always carrying the water for Cromer, Gonzalez, Mediocrity, and the Status Quo.

Ours is $27m because we strive for nothing greater on the revenue line. If it takes hard decisions and hard work - we shy away. Many more people have your mindset of mediocrity than mine of excellence.

I bet your bosses love you at work. "This guy doesn't really strive for much. Keep his raise at a minimum next year. He's no threat to leave us, or jump to compeition. Mediocre at best."

I'm not carrying water for mediocrity. Mediocrity would be an improvement over where Ohio football stands.

I think the state of mid-major college football is pretty sad, and I think that people like you illustrate just how pathetic it is. We have not been eligible for anything meaningful for decades. We aren't actually able to win a national championship, and we just pour good money after bad in a completely aimless attempt to maintain an arbitrary distinction of "FBS."

But people like you are so pathetically insecure about their alma mater that you keep insisting there's some magical path that will put us on par with major college sports. You criticize people 1000x smarter than you, offer nothing of substance, and just rant and rave because you want a thing and don't have it.

I've long advocated for stopping the charade and the G5 and FCS breaking off to do their own thing. The status quo is dumb, expensive, and pointless.

So let's call a spade a spade here: you're advocating for more of the status quo. Same set up, ineligible for anything that matters, losing money each year, and naively and pathetically convinced that we can keep up by saying words like "business" and having the right mindset.

You never have any plans. You just call people idiots and morons for living in reality. Our budget is $27M. Every time the athletic department expands or builds something people are enraged, bc funds aren't going to academics. So again - what is your plan? Other than just screaming into the void, what is Ohio University supposed to do to get to $37M? Please list the extensive amount of cuts you deem expendable in order to make this money appear. Cut all other sports? That won't cover it. Which academic departments should be dissolved? Are you going to make the case to Gonzalez that building dorms and upgrading facilities is not as important as expanding the stadium and paying football coaches? You're going to stand in front of the board and argue we should cut engineering, because our footall coach went to UNCC?

What's your plan, big guy? My wife is a director of student services at the university. Should she take a pay cut to make room for more seats in Peden? Should my kids lose food on the table so we can hire a more expensive coach? Let's hear your plan.

I used to think that people with ideas are the ones that count, but it’s not - it’s people with ideas who actually can make those ideas work. Not sure Bobcat Love is one of those people based on his hysterics on here.

It's not my FULL TIME job to be a revenue generator for the Athletic Department. You are all making the point for me, that the people who are PAID to make these decisions are failing at the task. You are saying it clear as day - they are failing.

From my standpoint, We have clear revenue issues as it relates to football non conference scheduling, that needs to be cleaned up first and foremost. We are leaving a staggering amount of money on the table, even in the face of supply and demand that works in our favor.

Secondarily, I really believe we should be holding the MAC more accountable for some of the revenue shortfalls. Optimizing media rights, increasing exposure, bowl revenues and tie-ins, CFP access, basketball revenues....it's clear Steinbrecher is a complete moron. His last statement about college athletics was about....Sportsmanship. He was walking around Detroit with a completely blank stare on his face. Gloria Navarez is already trying to raid the conference. This thing is a dumpster fire and it starts at the top. Steinbrecher is a problem, as is his staff.

Third, we should be working hand in hand with Miami on strategic planning. I would argue (correctly or incorrectly) that we are the two most valuable brands in the conference. I really believe we should be working with them to evaluate all strategic alternatives to generate increased revenue. Whether that includes conference affiliation, a higher portion of conference revenue, etc etc - I don't know - but we should be working together on an Executive/Strategic level.

Fourth, we need to start figuring out how to engage closer with alumni as it relates to athletics. There is one guy that I like in the athletic department. The rest, meh. Everyone else that I liked is now at Virginia, Maryland, and Oregon, they GTFO out of Athens at the first chance they had. This Athletic department is a revolving door of people, so why would anyone want to invest? I'll fault Schaus, McDavis, Boeh, Gonzalez, and Cromer for this culture of flight. Most of all I'll fault Kirby Joke-Cutt and his completely failed tenure, but that's water under the dam.

You want me to keep going? Jesus, at least someone who gets a regular check from Ohio could try something out of the box???? Anything???? Again, it's not my job to build a strategic plan for the athletic department and the conference. Hold the people that are failing accountable - not me. You can shoot my ideas down, but at least they are ideas, and again, I am not paid to generate them.

The NIT of football is exactly what's happening right now, my dude. A bunch of garbage bowl games nobody is interested in as a "reward" for teams who win a whopping 7 games.

What are you proposing?

Did anyone let Boise know they are playing in the "NIT of Football?"

You think we have no money now, wait until we drop down to the Nevarez division - I'll never show my face in Athens again at an athletic event.

I am not an expert on such matters but I suspect that Toledo is the most valuable brand in the conference. I suspect that most on here understand that is likely true already.

My experience with you is that if you begin to understand that you will berate everyone like they didn't already understand something that you just learned about. Then an inferiority complex will kick in and you berate the athletic department for allowing that to happen. Then you'll come up with some crazy plan like holding the Tokedo AD for ransom. We'll, maybe not THAT crazy. Then everyone will ignore you or tell you that's stupid and you'll call them apathetic. Then an article will come out in a couple of years and show that Toledo is indeed the most valuable athletic department in the MAC and you will say that this proves you right yet again.

Always carrying the water for Cromer, Gonzalez, Mediocrity, and the Status Quo.

Ours is $27m because we strive for nothing greater on the revenue line. If it takes hard decisions and hard work - we shy away. Many more people have your mindset of mediocrity than mine of excellence.

I bet your bosses love you at work. "This guy doesn't really strive for much. Keep his raise at a minimum next year. He's no threat to leave us, or jump to compeition. Mediocre at best."

Not sure Bobcat Love is one of those people.

So many words, yet literally said nothing.

Fallen? This was our first conference championship in the modern era, and we play in a bad conference. Our field is named after a coach who never won a championship.

I literally just said in black and white, I DO NOT know which is the most valuable brand. You may well be right that it's Toledo. Some could probably argue Buffalo or NIU. Doesn't matter. I would still link our fortunes to Miami for a multitude of reasons that I'm tired of discussing here. The rest of your drivel is garbage, as usual.

I am not taking sides in this money spat but to think there are not opportunities to reduce costs at the university is very questionable in my opinion. How the saved money is ultimately used would of course be open to discussion (maybe we’d just reduce tuition) but I am sure there are programs that bring limited to no real value. Bringing up tenure to investigate would open up its own can of worms although I will admit being the lone wolf in that endeavor would be challenging. In my 32 years of working for a rather large corporation I went through three major reorganizations when many people lost their jobs. I was fortunate to survive them but let me tell you they were not pleasant experiences. Perhaps some of you have experienced the same. Most of the time is was not a matter of doing a good job. I really see no reason why all organizations, public and private, shouldn’t encounter the same scrutiny. My point is money could be found to at least begin discussions about where it’s spent.

I watched the post game presser - my opinion based on his opening and closing - he 100% new. He may not have realized he was about to depart the bus before returning to Athens - but to me it seems he knew his time was over.

While this is true, football is never going to be a money maker, so it's going to be hard to justify cutting jobs for it.

You could be. Start a collective. Sell your vision. Raise money and yield influence.

The door is literally wide open for this sort of thing.

Or just bang your head at the 100 or so us around here.

Thanks for some clarification of previous posts. I’m not sure you’re talking to the right audience though. I’m also pretty sure that all the name calling and put downs is not the right approach either . I love your passion for Ohio university! Just a suggestion - you might want to take the course “How to win friends and influence people” . It might help

The Graduate Assistants for the Football program make about $800 a month even after their 1% raise a few years ago. But yes let's worry about the HC making $300,000 more who has no problems getting by after making $200,000+ in Athens, OH for 20 years. Additionally, at Ohio University we are not allowed the Quality Control coaches that other schools have because to Coach on the field as a non-employee you need to be enrolled in school. Not to mention the limited amount of support staff who also barely making it by. But yeah lets cut programs around campus so we can have a decent Football coach for a couple more years before he evidently leaves.
