It's crazy to think how optimistic I was before the season started about our D-Line with Ceasar, McCracken, Daxon, Burton etc. but here we are going into Week 5...DEAD LAST IN FBS at rushing yards allowed (283.5 yards per game).

It's hard to imagine things changing or getting better unfortunately. It must be a good feeling to be an opposing RB playing us knowing you make get 100+ rush yards and have a career day.

**sigh**

Did we change Defenses from last year?

We should be able to have a rotation where the big guys are fresh.

I saw true Freshman Weaver had a few tackles at DE. He’s a former wrestler and we need some nastiness.

The line shares responsibility in that they are allowing holes to form, but there have been countless times this year where a linebacker or safety has been in position one on one in the hole or in the flat and can't finish or whiffs altogether.

Will Thompson return this year?

His nastiness got us some penalties but at least he can tackle.

Wood also has been gone so actually we’ve lost all 3 linebackers from last year.

When I noticed this in the game against The Orange I thought maybe their athletes are just faster than ours, but then when the same thing happened over and over against the Mighty Dukes, Louisiana and NWU, it became clear even to my muddled mind that it's not so much a matter of speed as it is technique.  I believe you used the right word, "whiff."  Our defensive backfield kind of plays the "whiff defense," which is akin to the matador defense in basketball, of which I've personally been a practioner, and therefore a quasi-expert.frown

Tackling has been a sore subject with me for a while. Too many DBs, even in better years, always seemed to go for the big hit instead of minimizing damage/yardage with a sound form wrapup and subsequently gave up an additional 5-10+ in YAC.

Pretty sure Thompson is out for the year. Not sure about Wood's status, maybe injury as well?

Watching the NFL, it's complete night and day in the difference between their approach to tackling compared to ours. Even in one on one islands, I can often trust that the NFL player will at minimum disrupt the runner well enough that a teammate can finish the play.

Us, look at this. https://youtu.be/U9B-ygbuqCM?t=127

Arkansas has put on a clinic on how to effectively tackle as a team in their two biggest games against Texas and Texas A&M. They do exactly what Shab mentions. If the first guy doesn't get him, they at least make contact and then the other 10 are flying to the ball like their hair is on fire.
