Similar to the Whitesox success with Tony LaRussa, I don't hate the idea of going to an experienced candidate. I've always subscribed to the "old bull vs. young calf" phenomenon. What's Mark Funk up to these days? He had success everywhere he went, I think he's ready for a chance at being head coach. They are a delusional bunch over there...any "hot up and coming coach" will not want to go to that dumpster fire unless they overpay. They either need to take a coach needing to rehab an image or a FCS or lower coach looking to take a chance. If they pony up some money maybe they can steal away a G5 coach but kinda doubtful. Fan interest is hard to come by, especially when the team has been down so long and the stadium they use is 20 miles away from campus. They've managed to schedule a few home games that could boost attendance -- Purdue and Houston this year, BC and Syracuse next year, Duke and NC State in '23 -- but most of their home games are still against G5 teams from the south, midwest and west that average fans would show little interest in. Most of their "name" opponents over the next few years -- Clemson, Michigan, Tennessee, O$U -- seem to be money road games or part of a b-ball deal. Getting a quality coach might be tough. UConn would have to empty a Brinks truck to pull that off. I think it will be a re-tread or maybe a hungry young coordinator.
