The Padres, Dodgers and Giants are trying out special sections for fans that have gotten all their covid vaccinations. To get in, fans have to show that they've completed their vaccinations at least 14 days ago. If they're too young for vaccinations they have to show that they tested negative for covid within the last 72 hours. Once in, they have to wear masks but there's no distancing requirements even for people from different households. It'll be interesting to see whether it works. Could offer some hope for northern teams this fall. Southern schools don't seem to believe in covid restrictions so they'll do what they want anyway.

I'd be OK with this and other similar restrictions to attend sporting events, concerts, etc. . . but I wonder how easy/difficult it's going to be to get counterfeit vaccine IDs.

Once we are to the point that unused vaccines are sitting on the shelves (which seems to be now) , why not just open up? The vaccinated are protected and the anti-vaxers can assume their own risk

Masks and some social spacing are fine while numbers are still up, but what’s the point of dragging the pandemic out with Sub-50% occupancies once everyone who wants the vaccine, has one?

I think it's because we don't have the data to support the idea that vaccinated people can't get/spread the virus. I've seen reports that fully vaccinated people have still tested positive.

Also wanted to note, everything is open. So when you say "open up" I laugh because anything that anybody would want to do is available. This is a common rallying cry for the right but it just doesn't make sense because our country is open for business.

This is probably gonna sound overly technical.

I've posted before that my wife is a visiting nurse who has a number of covid patients.

What she's hearing from pretty much all of the infectious control doctors she works with, is that it seems covid is now "colonizing".So a positive test merely indicates that there's enough of covid to test positive. But, from from a medical standpoint, you're not "infected".

In NJ there have been what they call "breakthrough" infections, but they seem to be extremely rare.

As far as "everything is open", not in NJ.
Bars, stand alone or in restaurants, are still closed.

Other businesses have been allowed to open, but the capacity limits have been so severe, that a number of places, most notably restaurants, have either closed permanently, or have said they will have to stay closed, until they are allowed to operate at full capacity.

Life in Ohio is basically back to normal minus capacity restrictions. Bar seating being closed seems like a very small inconvenience in retrospect. People are still free to order their alcohol from the bar and take it to a table?

Plus the vaccine supply issue is not the same everywhere. While some places have unused doses sitting around, other places still can't get enough. Michigan, for example, is finally catching up after pushing the panic button a few weeks ago. But they're still one of the worst states for covid infections; 91,000 new cases in the past two weeks. And the J&J foul-up has put poorer communities in a jam. Most of the vaccination programs in low-income areas were using the J&J vaccine, so they've gotten behind over the past couple weeks.

Where I live in North Jersey there are a number of bars who don't serve food.
So they're still closed completely.

Restaurants are at 50% capacity.
You can't go to the bar, buy a drink and take it to a table.
You have to be seated, at a table, and order food.

There is also a 90 minute time limit per table.
So you can't watch a full game.

I have two friends that own bars/restaurants.
They say having the bars closed hurts a lot.
In many cases, people would come in to watch games, and then decide to
order food.

They said during football and basketball seasons the bar is packed from
Kick/tip off, till the end of the last game.

Derby Day is also really big.

Hopefully, Murphy will announce today that bars can open in time for that.
But, based on the stunt he pulled last Summer with indoor dining, no one trusts him.

Its better then it was just a couple of months ago (25 %) capacity. But still not good.

In my wife's office, J&J was the only vaccine they could use for Home Bound patients.
Same with mobile vans for "underserved" areas.

The screw up at J&J's Baltimore Plant was bad enough.
NJ got a 96% drop in doses.

But it was better the 0.

During the "pause" The above services pretty had to completely shut down.

Barely a month ago we weren’t allowed to attend the Ohio/Virginia basketball game and had to pay 4 times face value for limited tickets to Creighton game 100% of my Ohio University Sophomore’s classes are online and my OU senior has only had labs in person Nice you find that laughable

Last I saw, 26% of eligible Americans have been vaccinated. I'm all for opening up immediately as soon as we hit the point where everybody who wants a vaccine has one, but how do we determine when that point's been hit? 26% seems low to me.

Does that stat include children under the age of 16? The stat I saw was that more than half American adults were at least partially vaccinated and more than a third were fully vaccinated. That was more than a week ago.

Good question. I'm not sure. Another Google and I'm seeing the number as 28.5 percent of the entire population: https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/public-health/state...

The vaccine, like any vaccine, isn't 100% effective. People who are vaccinated are safer being around others who are vaccinated. The more people who are vaccinated in any gathering, the safer each person there will be. It's math.

What’s the end game if you’re not comfortable the vaccines work well enough? Hide indefinitely? Tell everyone else what they are allowed and not allowed to do? Just how many vaccinated people are dying from covid? Hospitalizations? Are there any documented covid deaths after someone was fully vaccinated? I was under the impression that those who were vaccinated only get mild covid cases if any? So, math shows 95% of vaccinated don’t get I covid at all, but what of the other 5%? Aren’t they just mild cases? Or are they dying too?

Opening up should be win/win The left get to herd immunity quicker and amusement by letting the right anti-vaxers run the Covid cases up The right get to do their he man tough guy “just the flu” hero crap The “math” says herd immunity after 70% either infected and/or vaccinated Why does left want to drag this out? We’ll never get there if the vaccines sit on the shelf and the shots wear off after 6-12 months If the trumpsters won’t go the easy route, why worry about them? The left can still lock themselves at home while Darwin works the right over We’re 15 months in with vaccines available for anyone who wants one For the majority of us who aren’t pushing left and right agendas, when can we just start letting adults make their own decisions on what events/activities they feel comfortable attending or whether taking a vaccine or not is their preferred risk?

How is it open when yOUr own university suspends organizations for having gatherings over 10 people, no fans at events and few in person classes? The left will drag it out forever while the right refuse to get vaccinated Protect yourself and let Darwin do the rest In the end, the Left are fighting to protect the right from themselves which is just lunacy I really don’t get .

The thing so many people fail to realize, and it's been true all along, si that their actions don't just affect themselves and others failing to do the right thing. They hurt innocent people who have tried to do everything right.

People who wore masks and socially distanced got sick and died because the virus became so rampant that it was unavoidable. Now, people's refusal to get the vaccine is causing all of this to drag out, which isn't fun for anyone, but even worse, it's allowing more time for variants to develop, increasing the chances that vaccinated people can get sick.

Let me know when you find an actual person from the left who actively wants this to drag out.

BOOM!!!! Shab dropping actual facts.

Phil Murphy,Governor of New Jersey.

People is his own party are now publicly saying that, based on the number of people who are fully vaccinated, the number of new positive test results, rate of infections and reductions in hospitalizations, they don't know why he isn't fully opening things up in line with Conn.
Even NY now has less restrictions, with higher metrics.

People on the other side of the aisle are more blunt.
They say he loves the "power trip".

Monday he came out with allowing Socially Distanced dancing, with masks, for Proms and Weddings.
Own a night club or restaurant with a dance floor, no dancing, Socially Distanced or not.
Like covid knows the difference.
Its so ridiculous ,he's being called "Rev. Shaw" (Footloose)

The CDC said this week that of the 84 million fully vaccinated Americans, 6,000 are know to have contracted COVID, 396 have been hospitalized and 74 have died. These numbers show very low percentages of the vaccinated population being impacted, indicating an effective vaccine. But people who are vaccinated should still take precautions because they aren't entirely safe, as these numbers show, and some of them could still unknowingly pass COVID on to others. I think many adults have proven they won't make good decisions on the safety of their activities or on whether to take a vaccine and we shouldn't ignore that their bad decisions make life more dangerous for others. I'd rather be in a vaccinated only section personally and providing vaccinated-only spaces or venues is one way of safely opening back up. If people don't want to get vaccinated for the safety of themselves and others, why shouldn't they be the ones who can't attend a game - or at least sit in the same section -- because they make others less safe?

This makes entirely way too much sense.
