There are a lot calls from the NJ press for Rutgers to cancel their season.

Most people think that because they are in the B1G and this will be Schiano's first season, its not likely.

Unless of course, the B1G pulls the plug.

Of course UConn being Independent and losing half of their schedule due to conferences going conference-only, that plays a part in this. But this, coupled with the fact that a lot of players are already opting out of the season, doesn't bode well for anyone.

Look how many issues baseball is having. You can't get professional baseball players to comply with rules to keep everyone safe, think about 80+ college age football players. That plus all the travel involved...it just really feels like 2020 won't or shouldn't happen.

Not surprising out of UConn. They've gone independent this year, so they don't have a conference-only schedule to fall back on. Six of their 12 games were already cancelled; five vs "P" teams and a game vs Maine. They will also likely have games at San Jose St, ODU and MTSU cancelled. That would leave UMass, Liberty and Army. Really not worthwhile.

Other indies are likely to go the same route soon. Army already has three games cancelled, UMass has two, Liberty has four, NMSU has two, and BYU has six.

If we have a season, go ahead and call Army for a game. That'd be fun!

The language of the contracts may be important. The team that is the first to cancel may owe a penalty. If there is going to be no season, the fairest thing would be for the order to come from the NCAA so that the contracts just get voided.

Is the contract voided if the cancellation order comes from the conference?

I have no inside information on what is or isn't in these contracts. I think it's almost certain that there are cancellation penalties under normal circumstances, but these aren't normal circumstances.

The majority view seems to be that this whole thing started in an exotic meat market in China, when someone forgot to wash his hands after cutting open a bat. If true, that would rule out "act of God." Maybe we need to start putting "act of dumbass" clauses in contracts.
