“The Portal giveth and the Portal taketh away.”

The Book of Albin

The early sounds of wailing on here have replaced by a November wow!

I’m sure I should list a few more….especially in a minor role….but OUr Portal People have been outstanding.

On offense of course the big three of Navarro and Tyus and Owen should be All MAC.

The defense has been even more productive with a little longer list.

Leake and Johnson have really stepped up with lots of help from:

Walker- Burgess
Doggette
McNaboe
Rice

As I said above I have not listed them all.

I really love this team.

Heidecker on the line and Bruno spelling Williams have also been solid.

Owen:
I hope we get Owen 110 yards to get him over 1K for the season. What a year hes had. Love this kid.

He's likely a 1st teamer, though we've been surprised before - like last season.

Navarro:
Maybe 3rd team? The rushing yards get him there, and the wins help, but I have doubts. Would be interesting if he is All-MAC with 7 td 9 int

Passing yards: 9th
Passing Td: 11th (Tied with Labas who played in 5 games)
RTG: 6th
Comp %: 4th

Rushing yards: 6th
Rushing TD: 2nd

Tyus:
2nd team. Worth his weight in gold.

Side note: Did yall know that Dolac from Buffalo leads the country in tackles with 146 and has 5 int? And 2nd in the country... Murdock, also from Buffalo with 135.

U must agree ! Ohio's basketball & football programs have survived the "art of portal" .
Second and third tier players are hungry to prove they belong. The old "Chip on their shoulder" is still relevant.

We are doing pretty well with respect to the MAC but in general our teams are much lesser teams with respect to the best teams in the country that they were in years past even though they weren't close years ago. This goes pretty much for everyone that isn't in a power conference on the whole.

Reading an article about the Nebraska program I find that the Huskers have 150 on the roster while the new rule limits the roster size to 105. The article says that as many as 45-50 from Nebraska will enter the portal.

If this is consistent at other large programs do you think schools in the MAC will benefit by many of those surplus guys transferring down?

Isn't the scholarship limit going up from 85 to 105 next year. If Nebraska has that many players then I think it means that they have 60 walk-ons. Is there also a limit to the number of walk-ons coming?

They’re going to 105 roster players and supposedly walkons will be gone, but there is some debate about that I believe. The current FBS roster size is 128 per Sports Illustrated.

I presume you are right, and the excess is all walkons. If the scholarship limit is 105, and the roster limit is 105, that means the end of walkons. I'm sure that they will all try to find a scholarship somewhere, but I'm also sure than some will simply walk away from football. They are all paying their way now, so hopefully they can continue their education.

As I understand it, schools are allowed to offer up to 105 scholarships. But don't have to. If Ohio sticks at 85, there could still be 20 walk-ons. But not as many as today. With the lowering of roster limits and the addition of more games via the playoff, there could be significant attrition issues in college football.

OSU will be down like 100+ scholarship athletes. All for the benefit of football and basketball.

Soccer crushed 6 girls dreams
Last week but don’t worry. Walmart Buckeye fans. They will make the playoffs. I wonder what Ohio’s count will be? This isn’t even in the regular news cycle anywhere. It’s tragic. The portal will explode.

Right there with you. There was a post earlier in the year where I stated Johnson and DJ Walker would be great players on the back end.

What I'm most excited about the next 2-3 games are the commentators mentioning are success despite the transfers out. Any player on the fences at another school might give us a serious look after Owen, Tyus and others success. I will be curious to see how that how that plays out when portal opens up.

OSU just announced 91 new scholarships across all sports. Haven’t looked up the details yet but they can’t all be football

OSU back tracked on cutting olympic sports. They announced cuts for mens gymnastics and then people started reading the tea leaves. In the last few days they have committed to retaining all scholarships.

Football will take 20 of those scholarships. Sports like baseball and softball could make out. Roster drops significantly for baseball, but no longer limited to 11.9 scholarships.

A little more insight.

https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-athletics/2024/... .

If there are 20 going to football there's 71 available for other sports. That's an average of 2 per sport additional.

I think baseball is allowed to go to 34 and they are around 11 today. So there is a lot of room there. Will be interesting to see what SEC baseball programs do.

This is bonkers. Fringe revenue programs like baseball already have to raise money and financially proof out things to many of their universities just to fund the full 11.7 of today. Now to remain competitive they not only have to prove out / fundraise more to get their spots, they also need to have a female sport match up. You'll see Mississippi State baseball effectively fundraising for Mississippi State softball so they can expand their scholarship use. Will be interesting to see it all play out, but as schools like Ohio can't get anywhere near that full use of the 34 it will obviously widen the gap between the big boys and mid-majors.

Not really on the female match, not like it used to be.
