Verbal from another Ohio player. 9 or so FCS offers, 3 star, #99 in Ohio

Originally a verbal commit to UAB. Nice to see him stay in Ohio.

Looks like Metz and Albin flipped him from UAB. Good for them! Our recruiting is picking up!

A big man that can catch the ball and run. Not many highlights of him blocking, but he has the size for it:

Ohio has a tradition of outstanding tight ends, so welcome, AJ.

Who would you say are some of the best tight ends in Ohio history? Not disagreeing with you, just curious for your take.

Probably the best pass catching TE was Andrew Mooney, and the best overall was Jordon Thompson. That's really not how I think about it, though. I think about years where Ohio was stacked at the position, and sometimes even used 3 TE sets. Some good groups were 2005 (Cody, Sylvan, Logan), or 2010 (Thompson, Clark, Caldwell, Olyaie) , or 2011 (Thompson, Clark, Robak, Hill, Knight), or 2017 (Mason, Morgan, Brown, and the Leuhrman twins). Last year the group was very good, too, but for some reason they didn't seem as effective this year.

I remember back about 2009 when the Marshall coach complained that, when they played Ohio, they didn't match up well because the Ohio TEs were so dominant.

'Preciate the answer! Mooney and Thompson were really the only ones that immediately came to mind for me. That Marshall quote is telling.

From my memory, the TE coach from 2005-2008 was Pete Germano, and in 2009 was Isphording. At the time they coached the TEs, both were the recruiting coordinator. Both were good coaches, and moved on to coach other positions, but maybe, as recruiting coordinator, they placed special emphasis on recruiting tight ends? Whatever the reason, they sure seemed good every year in those days.

Coach G use to have cookouts at his house for that group. TEs would run through a wall for Coach G.
