2016 tight end prospect Stephen Puhl from Franklin Regional in Pennsylvania is attending, according to someone (seems like it might be his mother) who emailed me. He also will be at a camp at the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, according to Panther-lair.com.

I love the fact that the event is being hosted by former Bobcat Sean Williams head coach at Bedford. Sounds like the attendance was fantastic.

With 320 in Athens, 253 in Cincy and 244 in Cleveland, I'm pretty impressed with the numbers. I wonder how many campers other schools have at their camps. Most importantly, will we get any recruits who may have been on the fence or new ones that we didn't know much about?

I'm impressed, too. To me, the fact that the numbers at these camps are growing each year shows an increasing level of respect for the Ohio University, and the Ohio coaching staff among high school programs, coaches, and players throughout the state. In turn that bodes well for the future. I think that the trend we have seen in recent years of more acceptances, particularly early acceptances, coming from within the state is one that will continue.

The other advantage of these camps is that it allows Ohio coaches to actually see a lot of the kids and evaluate them in person.

I have to wonder if, with these camps behind us, we'll see a few more acceptances this week. If so, this class could be essentially full before the end of July.

I've seen camps at UC and I'd say 200-300 is about normal for them.

I'd be more interested in seeing how many kids the staff has never seen/contacted that come to these camps and then sign a LOI at some point in time.  Or, are they just seeing a bunch of kids they aren't, in the end, interested in.  Or, are they seeing kids they are interested in based on video or other contacts and just getting a confirmation.

In other words, I am asking do you think these Camps worth the work (I know exposure but to what??)?  And, do any other MAC schools do Camps?

I looked up the various MAC schools in Ohio, and found:
Toledo has camps in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Stark County, and Youngstown, and several at the Glass Bowl.
BG has camps in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Youngstown, and Akron.
I don't see that Miami, Kent State, or Akron have off-site camps.

I would say that Ohio, BG, and Toledo have been the leaders in recruiting Ohio in recent years. Maybe this is part of the reason?

I note that, per NCAA rules, you can only hold camps within 50 miles of campus. That probably limits Ohio more than some other schools that are closer to the more populous parts of the state.

I must be losing it,I though both Cincy and Cleveland were more than 50 miles from Athens or even a branch

Are you sure there isn't a branch close enough? Here's an article that brings up the 50 mile rule.

Ah, that explains it. So, they can do it anywhere in the state. Thanks, Steve.
