New verbal, per Scout.com
6-6 265, Offer from Kent, too. He is from the same school as Andrew Meyer.

He isn't listed by rivals, ESPN, or 247Sports, and isn't rated by Scout.

Film at scouting ohi
o. It says he also plays DE, but wants to be an OT.

I wonder what position he'll end up playing. He seems a bit undersized to contribute at the o-line at 265. Correct me if I'm wrong but OUr o-line average is +290, isn't it?

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

That's not uncommon:
Flading came in at 265, ended up at 290
Carlotta started at 272, ended at 302
Herman started at 264, ended at 317
Allen started at 265, ended at 302
McGrath started at 270, is 300 now
McQueen started at 275, is 300 now

There are some that come in at 300+, and some in the 260-270 range, and either can work.

Sebastian Smith is also from Pick Central.  The coach speak for Brennan would be; displayed toughness, good feet, frame to be a 300 pounder, from a good program. Bottom line; he is a person the coaches feel will work his butt off for five years.  They must really like him, though, because the trend has been bigger recruits. He and Pruehs will definitely red shirt.

He's one of the guys that the haters and the chicken little sky is fallin why don't we get 4 star recruit guys will be bitchin about.

What they forget or maybe were even to young to comprehend was that it wasn't too long ago that we got 240 pound tackles and they weren't from programs like Pick Central.

This is exactly the kind of guy I'm in no position to assess. When you're looking at linemen, what you can't see on film is their heart. A linemen coming into a program like Ohio is not normally going to come in capable of starting as a Freshman. Instead, they are going to come in at, say, 265, and spend 2 years working in the weight room, getting bigger, and stronger, and then, as a redshirt Sophomore, at say 290, they will be able to play, and then by the time they are a Senior, and 310, they will be a good player. That's the way you saw a lot of the smaller incoming linemen I listed above develop. On the other hand, a guy with no drive could come in, and coast, and not work any harder than they need to, and not get much bigger, or stronger, or faster, and not really improve, and never really contribute.

For some positions, like RB, DB, or WR, they either have talent, or they don't, and it's pretty easy to see. For linemen, especially on offense, the coaches need to assess not only their current skills, but their drive to improve, because what these guys look like 5 years from now could be very, very different than what you see today.

That's why I tend to give offensive line recruits a pass. If the coaches think a lineman is the one they want, well, OK, who am I to disagree? This guy has quick feet, and that's a great start. If he has the drive to add strength, size, and improve his technique, he can be a good one.

Note - Roger Lewis is from Pickerington Central, too.

He's obviously a smart guy...you can tell by his commitment.

It's time we started getting into 317 lb roadgrader mode.  Louisville, Beefs, BG apparently--tough for us to handle given their beef.

Doc is right!  However, I am not a hater but this is the "typical" guy we go after.  "Under the radar" and "offers from one other MAC team".  I know 4 star guys are out of our realm but this program will go no further than it is right now without more 3 star guys with offers from some top 40-60 schools.  Kent ain't one of those!  Sorry.

I took a look at all the offensive line recruits in recent years, and there doesn't seem to be any correlation between incoming weight and how they did. The over 300 group have all been good (Wood 325, Lechner 310, Sam Johnson 305, Cole Bunner 303, and Mike Lucas 300), but if I look at the lightest ones, I find some pretty good ones there, too (Chris Rodgers 228, John Flowers 255, Lucas Powell 264, Joe Flading 265, Eric Herman 265, Skyler Allen 265).

If I had to pick, I'd say that the best indicators of success for Offensive linemen seem to be the number of other offers. In the early years under Solich almost none of the line recruits had any other offers, but lately you're seeing that most of them have at least one. From 2005-2007 they had an average of .3 other FBS offers. From 2008-2010 the average was 2 other offers. The average from 2011-2104 was 2.7 offers. Interestingly, the few in recent years where they have gone under the radar and taken someone with no other offers seem to have been pretty successful (Powell, Lucas, Curtis), so even this indicator may be losing effectiveness.

Brian Knorr said that the old way of recruiting linemen was to find a guy that was 235 pounds and bulk him up to 275 but the new approach was going to be to find guys who were 275 and bulk them up to 300+ which is how they are now doing  it. You've got to respect the height of this kid (6'6) and the weight potential here. That is what I like about Frank's lineman recruting, they are big and oversigns the position to be safe. One thought tonight before the BG game is I don't know if trying to be like a west coast school running no huddle is the best fit for the blue collar Ohio players that this state produces and end up becoming bobcats. One part of running that kind of offense is to attract the kind of players that want to run a dynamic offense but the in-state guys are used to power football in the trenches.

After the BG fiasco, I repeat: this program will go no further than it is right now if it continues to recruit the kind of player it currently recruits.

Even though the classes of 2011-2013 are much different than the classes of 2005-2009, and especially different from the 2010 class? Leaving the 2010 class out, which was a lost class, the classes from 2005-2009 consisted of players that rarely had any other offers. The 2011-2013 classes consist mostly of players that had other offers. Furthermore the classes of 2013-2014 are also different from prior classes in that most of the people in both classes came from the initial offers, whereas all prior classes consisted mostly of players who got later offers in December/January.

Note: I don't think it was a quality of player issue that cost the last two games. Neither Buffalo nor BG were any better than Marshall or NTSU. There was clearly something else at work.

Brennan named First Team - All-Central, Division I.  Joining him on first team linemen were Luke Callahan (3 stars, commit to Cincy, also had offer from Ohio), Nick Richardson (4 stars, commit to Kentucky), Kyle Trout (4 stars, commit to Ohio State, had Ohio offer).  Ohio was going after the best in the district.

Perhaps there is an unusual amount of fight in Brennan. Sounds good.

Pickerington is a good team, and plays in the top Division, and they made it to the round of 16 before being eliminated from the State Championship, so Brennan played against other top players. Personally I like this verbal. He has quick feet, and has a good motor. Big guys with quick feet are not all that common.

With any offensive lineman, whether 2 or 4 stars, the future is what he wants to make it - he needs to fill out, and get stronger, but the potential is certainly there.

Dudziak picks up a 3-Star rating from Scout.com.

I love big guys with 3-stars.  Obviously, this staff finds some of the "under the radar" guys who are actually pretty good once evaluated.  Now, if they can start to convince more3-star guys out of the box to come to OHIO, I will be really happy.  Bottom line, I think this big 3-star guy is a Christmas present I like.

Some of the recruits for OL I like for their power. This one I like for quickness. A lineman named Zach Wiegert played in the NFL for 12 years, and I remember an interview he did where he was asked about his longevity.  He said something along the line that each year there were good, young linemen aiming for his job, and that one thing kept him on top, and that was his quick feet. He said, the size you can build (if you have the frame). The strength you can build. The technique you can learn, but when it comes to quickness, you either have it or you don't, and it was quickness that separated him from his challengers for all those years.

Considering he was First Team All-State, he really wasn't too far "under the radar". He might have been at the beginning of the season, but certainly by now he isn't. The coaches had a good eye when they made this offer.

Sounds like center material--nobody over the center than he has to be quick to help where help is needed.  Brennan--practice your long snapping.  It will give you the chance to play as a RS Freshman and beyond regardless of how competitive your teammates make it for you to see regular playing time on the line.

Punts have been blocked frequently at OHIO so put a skilled 290 pounder as the snapper and you have given the defense the difficulty of a larger body to get around or slide past.
