Ohio has a verbal commitment from 6-5, 290-pounder offensive tackle Michael Curtis from Mishawaka (IN) High School.  As a junior, Curtis was named First Team All-State in Indiana's 5-A Division.

From the South Bend Tribune: Mishawaka's Curtis finds right fit at Ohio

This is another outstanding player and quality person for our program. Son of a coach, first team all state and a future J-School grad.
Props to Frank and Coach Kevin for another outstanding addition to our program. Welcome Michael and family!

Mishawaka Cavemen (nice!) open the season tonight and host the Dekalb Barons.  Dekalb was 2-8 last year.

I'm not necessarily a sophomoric humor kind of guy.  I usually leave that to Mcbin.  However, the coaching legacy listed here for Dekalb made me laugh.  Punchlines since 1982.....

DeKalb Head Coaches:
-----------------------------------------
2004-2009: Jim Hummer (27-37  .422)
2003:      Dan Callahan (4-7  .364)
1998-2002: Mike Cochran (26-26  .500)
1990-1997: Ron Kock (67-18  .788)
1982-1989: Dale Hummer (61-24  .718)

Mishawaka rolls DeKalb 47-7, rack up 403 of their 495 total yards on the ground.

1-0 on the season.  Next up is a game @Goshen 1-0 (2-8 last year).

It doesn't take a smart one to realize that's a LOT of yards on the ground. Hope big Mike was a part of that.

Mishawaka checks in at #6 in the AP Indiana High School football poll for Class 5A (the largest).  They improved two spots from #8 last week.

Mishawaka airs it out.

Mishawaka opened up conference play with a 25-0 win over St. Joseph's.  They move to 3-0 overall, and 1-0 in the Northern Indiana Conference.  Despite the title of the article, the Cavemen still ran for over 238 yards.

Next up for Mishawaka is a game at South Bend against Riley for another conference tilt.  Riley was 0-2, but picked up a 36-0 win this week in conference action to move to 1-2.

Edit: Mishawaka moves up one more spot this week in the Indiana AP HS football poll to #5.  The coaches poll can be found in the same link up at the top, and Mishawaka is #8.

I also found this mind-blowing piece of internets.  Jeff Sagain does computer rankings for Indiana high school football.  Mishawaka checks in at #17 thus far (12th among Class 5A schools).  They have logged wins over #214 DeKalb (0-3), #84 Goshen (1-2), and #102 South Bend St Joseph's (0-3).  This week's opponent South Bend Riley lands at #206.

Mishawaka moves up two spots this week in the Indiana coaches poll to #6.  In the AP poll (same link), they also jump up two spots, and come in at #3 in the state.

They now host Marist out of Chicago Illinois on Friday.  Marist is 3-0.  Marist is not listed in the Chicago Tribune top 20, but noted as on the verge of joining.

Mishawaka drops one spot in Jeff Sagarin's rankings and is now last at 18th, and the 13th Class 5A school.

Cavemen cruise with efficient effort.

Mishawaka (5-0, 2-0) step back into conference play this Friday hosting Elkhart Central (0-5, 0-2).

Mishawaka remains at #3 in the AP Class 5-A Football poll.  In the coaches poll (same link), they move up one spot to #5.

They drop one spot again in the Sagarin ratings, now listed at #19, and the 14th among Class 5A schools.  This week's opponent, Elkhart Centarl, is ranked at #206.

Cavemen strike quickly.

With the 51-21 win over Elkhart Central, Mishawaka moves to 6-0, and 3-0 in conference.

Mishawaka hosts Penn this Friday in a huge match-up for the Cavemen.  Penn is 3-3, but 3-0 in the Northern Indiana conference, and the only other undefeated team in conference play.  Penn has claimed at least a share of this conference title every year since 1986.

Mishawaka remained at #3 in the state in the AP poll, as well as #5 in the Coaches poll (same link).  Penn received considered in the coaches poll, but remained outside the top 10.

Penn lost to Valparaiso, #4 in AP poll/#3 in coaches, 10-7 to open the season, and Ben Davis, #8 in AP poll/#6 in coaches 14-10.  Their lone other loss was to Toledo Central Catholic, 10-7, who is 5-0 and ranked #7 in the Ohio Division II state poll.

In the Sagarin ratings Mishawaka dropped 6 spots to #25, and 18th among class 5A schools.  Penn is listed at #18, and 12th among 5A schools.

I'll post more after the SB Trib puts up their full game story, but Mishawaka pulls off a nice win 21-14 tonight over Penn.  It was the first win for the Cavemen at Penn since 1977.

Massive crowd watches Cavemen beat Kingsmen.

Mishawaka (7-0, 4-0) will host another conference foe Friday in South Bend Clay (5-2, 2-2).  Mishawaka now has sole possession of first place in the Northern Indiana Conference.

Mishawaka remains number 3 in the Class 5-A State AP Poll, despite #1 and 2 flip-flopping (Warren Central beat Carmel 37-27 last week).  South Bend Clay is unranked in Class 4-A, but in the other receiving votes category.

The Cavemen moved up 2 spots in the Coaches Poll and are now at #3 in both polls.

Mishawaka moves up ten spots in Sagarins ratings and is now listed at #15, 10th among Class 5-A schools.  South Bend Clay checks in at #51.

Mishawaka 28, Clay 21.

Mishawaka (8-0, 5-0) will close out the regular season against South Bend Washington (6-2, 4-1).  SB Washington and Penn are tied for 2nd in the Northern Indiana Conference behind the Cavemen with a 4-1 record.

Mishawaka remains at #3 in the State AP Poll.  They have dropped one spot in the coaches to #4.

Sagarin ratings listed the Cavemen down two spots to #17, 12th among class 5A schools.  SB Washington is #50.

The sectionals have been set, and playoffs start next week.  Mishawaka will begin the playoffs with 0-8 Elkhart Central on the 22nd.  The Cavemen defeated EC 51-21 back in September.

Mishawaka 29, Washington 28.

Mishawaka closes out the regular season perfect at 9-0 overall, and 6-0 in conference.  It's their first outright Northern Indiana Conference title in 30 years.

Sectional play starts Friday.  Mishawaka will begin the playoffs with 0-9 Elkhart Central.  The Cavemen defeated EC 51-21 back in September.

Mishawaka remained at #4 in the coach's poll

Mishawaka 55, Elkhart Central 14.

516 yards rushing for the Cavemen, including 376 in the first half.

Next up is a rematch against Goshen.  The Cavemen beat Goshen 21-0 in their second game of the season.

Mishawaka 35, Goshen 7.

Mishawaka will play Penn next week.  The Cavemen won at Penn 21-14 about a month ago.  This will be for the sectional title.  Bracket here.

Mishawaka 14, Penn 7 OT.

Cavemen finish strong.

The Cavemen score with 5 seconds left in regulation, then they score and hold serve in OT for the sectional title.  It's the second straight sectional title and 5th overall for Mishawaka.

Mishawaka will play Valparaiso (9-6 winners tonight over Crown Point) next Friday night.  There are 8 class 5A teams left vying for the state title.  Bracket here.
