Our A.D.  has mentioned it and you can't deny the positive impact of being a regular bowl participant on recruiting.

What recruit would turn down the chance to play in a venue like the Superdome and to visit a city like New Orleans. I have family there and can tell you that it is one of the best cities in the world.

Congrats  to Coach Solich and the team and the staff and here's to recruits getting on board the bowl bound train of OUr Cats.

Going bowling is a positive impact for sure, now if we can just get that indoor practice facility we should be raking in the recruits. but seriously, these players work their ass off to get where they are and going to a bowl,  is just icing on the cake. Ohio and Troy playing in prime time on espn, Gotta love it.

Hate to put a damper on this thread because I generally agree, going bowling helps recruiting.  The bad news is Miami and Toledo, whom we recruit against daily, are also going bowling.

Said it once, will say it again, MOST of the MAC teams recruit mostly the same guys so it is VERY DIFFICULT to get enough of the best recruits for anyone in the MAC to stay on top for a long period of time (like theosu).

But then there's Kron and BG and even the direcrtional Michigan's....and I think they have the indoor stuff.  Ball State is having a good recruiting year....not sure what a coaching change will do.

Maybe not going to a bowl has more negative impact than the positive impact of going to a bowl. We seemed to be stuck in that negative space forever.

I think this might be the winner -- some of the MAC schools (Miami in their up years, Toledo, CMU for several years) could say they've been to a number of bowls in recent years, perhaps swaying some minds, but they no longer hold a major advantage there.

It's a positive for us regardless, even if it is removal of a negative.  Having a bunch of guys get to go to New Orleans certainly can't hurt!

I'm not sure if you'd call it negative recruiting, but in the past if a player had interest in us and another school the other school could say no championships and no bowl games for Ohio.....those days are gone.

Must win:

Bowl game.

First four games next year.

The culture is changing.  We are a winner.  The next five games (at least) are needed in order to rouse the too-long dormant faithful.  The kents loss was big a step back on this path.

Don't forget, BG, who in my unofficial surveys, wins out against Ohio more often than not. And they're not bowling. That is a positive IMO.

Seems like the teams that stay on top (See CMU) have the QBs. And once the particular QB takes off, the team sinks back in to mediocrity (LeFevour/Gradkowski/Roethlisturdburglar/Davis/etc). One thing that during our 3 bowls in 5 seasons, we'll end up having 3 different QBs. I don't know what that means, but I think it may mean we're recruiting more of a balanced team whereas others are getting the QB that we so dearly want.

I think it also reflects player development and coaching. The look of the team has changed since Solich. Newest DE recruit is six-six. Give him two years of getting even bigger, stronger and faster and he should be a force on defense, I hope.

We also won him over against a head to head battle with some other MAC schools....a fight we sometimes lost in the past.

Hopefully things are looking up in this regard.

I know I'm biased but I still can't for the life of me, understand why anyone would consciously choose to attend school in Toledo if they were given the chance to do so in Athens or Oxford...

36, you're preaching to the choir. But not everyone likes the rural setting that is Athens. Some prefer more of an urban locale and I would guess that is more likely among high school athletes being recruited to play D-I football and basketball.
