I was wondering if anyone knows if the only way OHIO football receives video is still by mail and email?  Or do they actually have a system that allows high school players to upload their highlight tapes to some website for the coaching staff to access?

I think they get most of them on 8mm film :)

In all honesty, they get a ton of DVD's, and there are some uploads out there, but mostly DVD's, and you would be amazed at the number and quality of the ones they get.

I ask because I am always try to find some way to motivate myself to do some side programming projects.  I might try my hand at developing a site that can be used by teams that would enable recruits to upload videos instead of having to send them through mail.  The site would also have a login for the coaching staff to then evaluate the uploaded videos.  Would also be a better way of allowing some more organization for the recruiting coordinator.  The hardware for this wouldn't be too bad either, just get a large desktop case, do a RAID 5 of a good number of 1TB or 2TB hard drives, one or two graphic cards, a solid motherboard, and some maxed out RAM.

If I can create something worthwhile, I can set up whatever Bobcat teams would want one, write off my time as charity work and then just let them raise the $500 - $1000 for the hardware for each team.  Or even set up some of the smaller teams together on the same server to help them save costs.

If I actually get far enough I might contact Grooms for some more info on what requirements they might have.

There are sites like ScoutingOhio.com that act as a repository for videos. Ohio uses that.

So do you think my idea would be redundant or should I just talk to Grooms first?  I know him from when I volunteered there for a season as their computer guy.

Never hurts to ask. It's a good idea and you have the passion for it.
